It is my understanding that they fear he was swept away in the rain swollen Eel River. It is pretty wild and sparsely populated downstream from where he went missing. I hope he is found. Wishes of peace for his loved ones.

That is speculation, from what I heard he was seen the next day which would rule that theory out

This is so sad. My friend went missing out 36 as well another guy and they both were found a month later at the mouth where the Eel goes into the ocean. They may want to search there. Or along the river from the disappearance spot in a kayak.

Good idea, in my research on the area a lot of the creeks over the years where damned up due to logging, I heard rumor he was last seen at Indian Creek which from overhead maps looks like a steep canyon. Do you have maps of the area you speak of…the mouth to the ocean? This is BLM land which would be Federal jurisdiction…FBI??

Not much real journalism, just speculation and innuendo.
Went out and tried to help with the search but everything is private property out there.
Stories keep changing and the family doesn’t have permission to search the properties like they say. The Facebook posts show people with assault style weapons trespassing all over and false claims.
Be careful out there! Steep and dangerous

How does the stories keep changing? What claims were false?

One of the locals said the sons stories kept changing.
Facebook shows a picture of someone’s land gated off and the comments were its public access to Blm. Turns out it’s all private.
Facebook post of some 70yr old man and his wife from the city with the claim that they had something to do with it.
Facebook comments that the Sheriff’s office is involved!
Lots of crazy. We need boots on the ground down river to help find Johhny.

The video doesn’t dig too deep on some basics. Where did they drive their car to? How close to where they camped? Did they camp on the opposite side of the river from the car?
Crossing rivers on foot is dangerous. Just one inch of rise can drastically change your ability to cross at the same location. You won’t realize you can’t cross until you are in the deep. Currents can prevent you from turning back, bars form in the middle of rivers, with deep water between either bank.
The simplest answer is the river. There’s too much fantasy about going survivalist for weeks, and weed grows. Tough people have accidents. Risk takers take risks.

If he is savy enough as a hunter he could live a long time off the land. Keep your faith he is looking for you too. My friend went missing riding dirt bikes out by hoopa, . he was having such a great time he just stayed longer.need an in to go trespassing to look maybe search dogs and boats up and down the river.
I’ll go look if I can.

If he was well enough to “live off the land” for a whole month then he’s well enough to walk the mile back to the highway.

“Will this be the attention needed to help the family raise money and attract interest in the case of their missing loved one?”

Is attention really the missing factor here? Seems there has been PLENTY of attention, not to mention public safety resources and countless numbers of people crawling all over other peoples’ property.

The family needs to get over their denial.
