Trinity County Seeks Public Input on Septic System Permitting Challenges

Seal of Trinity CountyPress release from the County of Trinity:

The Trinity County Board of Supervisors is inviting residents, property owners, and members of the development community to participate in a countywide survey as it evaluates whether to pursue development of a Local Agency Management Program (LAMP) for onsite wastewater treatment systems (OWTS), commonly known as septic systems.

A LAMP is a locally developed program that, if approved by the Regional Water Quality Control Board, can provide additional flexibility for the permitting and management of septic systems while continuing to protect public health and water quality.

As part of this evaluation, the County is seeking input from property owners, real estate professionals, brokers, developers, engineers, surveyors, septic system designers, contractors, lenders, and others with experience navigating septic system requirements in Trinity County.

The survey is intended to help the Board better understand how existing OWTS requirements may affect property development, home sales, financing, and other land use decisions. The County is particularly interested in learning about situations where septic system regulations may have delayed, limited, or prevented development or real estate transactions.

Whenever possible, respondents are encouraged to provide specific property information or project examples, as site-specific feedback will be the most valuable in helping the County evaluate potential opportunities and identify recurring challenges.

Community feedback will help inform the Board’s decision on whether additional study of a Local Agency Management Program is warranted.

The survey is available here, and on the Trinity County website. The County appreciates the participation of residents and the development community as it evaluates opportunities to improve the permitting process while maintaining strong environmental and public health protections.
