Flash Unmasking Mob Disrupts Grocery Store

Last Sunday, October 10, at the ENF grocery store in McKinleyville, tension over mask wearing during the COVID-19 pandemic escalated as it has many times before in other places into what some described as a peaceful protest and others described as a mob.

“I was just in line at the cashiers,” one customer of the store, Gillian Levy, explained. “One of the fellows that is just a character that I’ve seen around town pulled off his mask.” She said that the man started yelling. “A bunch of people took their masks off and chanted, too,” she said. “It seemed really staged. It seemed like a flash mob.”

The video she took showed a man claiming that wearing a mask “violated our constitutional rights.”

Levy told us, “He was saying a whole bunch of crazy stuff.”

The video she took captures her telling him “this was a private establishment.” Many people besides Levy have argued that telling people to wear a mask in a private business is no different than rules frequently cited such as “No shirt, no shoes, no service.”

Flash unmasking

As the protesters chanted, “No more masks,” the man Levy believed was their leader stated, “This is fascism.” Pointing his finger at masked customers, the man claimed, “This is for your sake…You should not have to wear a mask either.” Those against masking frequently argue that the government is being dictatorial when they enact laws requiring masks to be worn inside.

Levy told us, “I was so mad. I started videoing. I started arguing.” She said she was angry that the man “was yelling in my face with no mask on.”

When Levy, who said she had a degree in biology, tells the protest leader, “I believe in fucking science,” he responds, “Let me tell you about science…They’re liars. Fauci is a liar…Gates is a liar…It’s about eugenics…world domination… .”

According to Malia Sievers, a clerk at the store, a lone protestor had preceded the 10 to 15 people involved in the Flash Unmasking not long before. “There was a person in the store squatting down and he had a mask below his [chin],” she told us. “My boss asked him to pull it up. ‘What? You don’t want me to breathe?’ the guy said.”

According to Sievers, the man moved towards her boss in an aggressive manner. “That’s when I stepped in,” she said. When her boss went to go get a manager to deal with the upset man, “he was getting in my face like he wanted to fight me,” Sievers told us. “I called 911.”

Unfortunately, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department was occupied dealing with a homicide.

A store manager came, however, and succeeded in escorting the lone protestor off the premises. The manager, then went on a break, and the flash unmasking group filmed above arrived while he was gone.

“About 10-15 people showed up,” Sievers said. “They ripped off their masks…The guy who seemed like a ringleader was already banned [from the store previously].”

Sievers said she felt threatened and betrayed by the shouting crowd. “I’ve helped these people for over 10 years,” she explained. “[And,] I didn’t feel safe…All I felt they wanted was fear and blood.”

She said that she screamed at the protesters trying to be heard over their chants that if they didn’t wear masks, they couldn’t purchase items.

After about five to ten minutes, she said, the protestors left the store. “There were like 5 to 10 shopping carts around the store they left,” she told us. “Some of the people walked out [with items] without paying. We gave video to the police.” (As of Thursday, the Sheriff’s Department said, “We are actively conducting follow up on this case right now actually. I don’t see any information about items stolen or security footage in our system, but it may just have not been uploaded yet.”)

Later in the week, she wrote on McKinleyville Community Watch, a Facebook page,

To those who chose to have a mask protest at ENF in McKinleyville on Sunday October 10. I just want you all to know that the only thing you accomplished was cause trauma and unnecessary mental stress for your fellow community members who are actually working to help you day after day. The fact that your aggression, foul language, and complete disrespect was directed at ME and my co-workers shows your lack of knowledge, maturity and just how self-centered you all are. You have no idea how scary it was having an angry mob of people’s energy directed right at you.

(The post and the extensive comment response have since been removed.)

Sievers said she decided to come forward and speak publicly about the protest because she’s exhausted with having to deal with smaller scale hostility from a few shoppers frequently. “In ENF in the past month…month and a half…everyone who wears their masks below [their nose] wants to fight. The front folks [the cashiers and stockers] get yelled at and cussed at every day.”

The protest felt like a personal attack to her. “That was terrorizing,” she told us. “I did feel not respected…like me and our coworkers weren’t worth much…I feel pounded on.”

This group protest, she said, was even worse than the random arguments from individual customers. “It was premeditated,” she told us. “People in our community gathered to act like that and be really cruel to us.”

She said she didn’t understand why the demonstrators would direct their protest at the cashiers. “If they have to do it at ENF, do it outside in front,” she urged. “Or go to city and county where the rules are made.”

Levy also wondered why the protesters were at the store. “Why are they harassing the nice people at the natural food store who don’t have any control over the rules?” she asked.

Front line workers, such as grocery store clerks, who are often paid near minimum wage, and are some of the most at risk of contracting COVID-19 are tasked with also handling customers angry about the mask mandates.

Tension between the two camps has added to the already heavy burden local law enforcement must carry. Stretched thin, sometimes they must choose as they did Sunday between responding to a homicide or to an angry protest inside a store.

Tensions have also led to physical assaults in multiple cases.

According to Samantha Karges, spokesperson for the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department speaking to us back in July, she “found approximately 73 calls for service relating to masks. This includes assaults, verbal altercations, unwanted subjects not leaving businesses, and people calling to report others not wearing masks.”

She described one such event:

On July 1, 2021, at about 2:15 p.m. Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a business on the 900 block of Redwood Drive in Garberville for the report of an assault that had just occurred. According to an employee of the business, a female suspect entered the business and was asked to wear a mask due to State COVID-19 requirements. The female reportedly became upset, left the store, and then returned with a mask. According to the employee, the female continued to be discourteous to the employee and was asked to leave the store. As the employee assisted the female out of the store, the female reportedly struck the employee multiple times causing injury to her face. A friend of the employee who was in a vehicle outside the store witnessed the incident and attempted to intervene. The friend was also struck by the female and also sustained injury to her face.

At the time, Karges told us, “The suspect has been identified and the case has been forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for review and warrant determination.”

We reached out to one person who involved in the protest. She did not agree to our requests to interview her. She did say that she had been a member of the protest and had commented below Sievers’ post but, she said, “I left after being silenced and ridiculed by my own community simply for having a different opinion.”

Another person contacted us saying in an email, “If you’re going to do a story on the mask mutiny event at Eureka Natural Foods, you should probably mention the fact that they [meaning ENF] do not respect medical exemptions, which is in violation of the mandate,  and have filmed and harassed several customers that are medically exempt from wearing a mask when they attempted to shop there. That fact may have something to do with their being targeted for that protest.”

The California Department of Public Health states that the exceptions to wearing a mask indoors include “Persons with a medical condition, mental health condition, or disability that prevents wearing a mask. This includes persons with a medical condition for whom wearing a mask could obstruct breathing or who are unconscious, incapacitated, or otherwise unable to remove a mask without assistance.” (See the entire list here.)

We reached out to ENF late Friday but hadn’t heard back at the time of this posting.

For Gillian Levy, the customer who videoed the flash unmasking Sunday seen above, she says that though she feels she was justifiably frustrated, she isn’t proud of yelling back at the protestors. “We’ve all had enough of the blatant lies,” she said. “We are all at the end of our rope from hearing this stuff.. But I don’t think I solved any problems there.”

I didn’t wear a mask yesterday. I didn’t run around a store with my mouth open either. Grow up. If you can’t wear a mask you are either weak, or unbearably pretty.

So…you’re saying it’s acceptable to run around a store with your mouth closed?

Not quite sure what you’re saying. Are you denigrating mouth-breathers in general (which seems kind of discriminatory — are you a bigot?), or maybe I’m missing some kind of inside joke about running in a store?

Your comment is all over the place. Are you saying you didn’t go anywhere yesterday, or are you saying you’re unbearably pretty?

As far as the can’t vs. won’t argument, I’m a sixty-one year old man who’s had cancer twice, survived numerous car wrecks and industrial accidents, but I’m willing to bet I can beat you in any number of tests of strength, mental and physical.

Especially since, during the trials, you’ll apparently be wearing a mask and I won’t. Good luck!

I have a hard time believing people can’t wear masks. It’s more likely they won’t. I have severe asthma and I wear a mask every day. It is a minor inconvenience. The difference between inconvenience and oppression is really much larger than “cover your mouth and nose on our property”.

I only wish there were more long-term events for anti-maskers to get together away from the rest of us intent on actually staying alive without long-term complications. A two-week Festival of the Dumb or Anti-Masquerade seems like it would only improve public discourse by eliminating those who insist on putting themselves in harm’s way. Is it eugenics? No, it’s survival of the fittest.

Ok it’s ON! I WILL WEAR A MASK, and you won’t. But let’s do it Greco Roman style! In the nude. We can rub down with Ben Gay, and canola oil first. In the parking lot in front of the ENF. We don’t have to as actually wrestle in the store, because it’s hard for you to breath IN THERE. I’ll be there waiting today at 4:30. I’ll be the one in a Pelosi mask. I will look for the muscled OG with a runny nose. Eat your oatmeal tough guy!

Ewwwwww Covid CHARTS Quiz is at 3 negatives

In the future it will have 1 on the positive from me <*>+× if you want you can email me at [email protected]

You guys are silly. And I am too.. What are you waiting your (taste of) time on. Wish we will worn, won win, when we warn which wish we want wisely where we we’re whole. Wishes win, while winners whine white woes… Weird. Was…… What went with windy winds wishoning with wishing *WELLs* worth: WORLDS ?

Now, to all of you, I say the answer: if it’s always going to be, end up, or already right now experience, dreams and wishes that are spread like communicable communications perfectedly in perfect ways,… we are becoming What could be known as: everyone.

To:everyone

The universe L0ves yOu.

Don’t take this, or yourselves, too seriously.

Life is short, with, long-lasting lessons-learned.

GOD & me: think all of you guys are cool. And the holy-spirit in me is saying to ALL of YOU: I love you…now….then….on your birth, eons of past memories, and into the future for 1 second, 1 minute, 1hour, 1day, 1 week, 1 month, 1 year…….want you, especially you, to know: I LOVE you! And Am still in love; loving you, yes especially you, please forgive me everyone, I’m being silly, and who knows this is just God’s humorous way of saying.

♡ ☆●◇○☆•☆¿♧ ♤

What was the original topic? Oh yes, the answer that is right will always be a yes. So yes. I wore a mask, will I wear a mask forever icant say for certain. Being human in a way is like a dream where we all are already wearing masks that hopefully we will all learn to appreciate and respect naturally. Love can be a mask. Our sight can be shown to appear as a type of mask.

If we were all blind, would we still care if one wears a mask or not. If you see a mask on someone do you often wonder what it is that they might be hiding from. IF COVID WAS just an excuse for allowing them to hide and be even more anonymous.

I wear a mask, and not the metaphor of what I call my body to ultimately be, but I wear a mask right now because I’m going along with the status-quo. I want to fit in. The peer pressure was too much, so, I wear a mask still. But in the future, I won’t need masks anymore. Almost as if every word I write is a mask, in and-of itself.

Even though most won’t even spend a second reading what I have posted and more even then will discredit me as being some crazy, non-important, person just trying to get a rise out of you guys.

This post, even though remarkably off tangent, goes pretty deep. And then again I can be very shallow, as in case: the beach.

I will end with this: Is The meaning of life:to Try to find meaning in life while your still living it, then reminisce, when your done, when you awaken in eternity, as a dream come true in our souls peaceful slumber, sharing the knowledge that Heaven is free, and love be a famous key, for you and you, and even me.

I would say that even though we never know what someone is going through, and we may not completely know everything we should, everyone is going through something. So it’s powerful to always be kind, because sometimes that’s the one thing that helps another have the desire to continue living, just for one more day. So remember; everyone is going through something and even if we might not know what exactly someone, or everyone might be going through, if we remember to be nice and kind, we can all get through it.

I truly believe now and forevermore, the meaning of life IS to find meaning in life, (without being mean) which helps us all find a helpful human kindness.

OK. Take this random post as is, and you will be no worse for the wear. You survived, your mind is strong, your dream will never die, feel your power. I had some free time on my hands. Thank you for sharing some moments with me. Remember: Covid no-covid you are all irreplaceable, no one can out-do the miracle of you but yourself, enjoy life while you have it, and understand that it’s sad when people pass from this world to go to the next, but in a hope inspiring way wish and pray that they will have another chance to affirm life if they want and possibly experience an even greater development and relationship with life than they ever dreamed of having or living through before.

It will be interesting to read the responses from everyone who by fate decide to share their views on my somewhat outspoken over the top ramblings that I thought just in a special way might make someone rethink everything, and then might make someone else kinda giggle ???? and smile.

Your Crazy but kindly intentioned friend, Nick Elliott

Peace all the way Up.
Peace in and peace out.

GOD WILL always be proud of you and love you. All of you are his best friends.

They are employing a well known fascist tactic. Bullying and insults. The store employees wear a mask all day while at work, yet these people can’t wear one for 10 or 15 minutes. Using these tactics is scary, what’s next, breaking windows of stores that require masks. Kristallnacht “the night of broken glass” “Remember your history or you are doomed to repeat it.”

Seeking justice over police oppression of black people. The rest of us can go f*** ourselves, despite what figures actually indicate about police violence being a problem for all races.

Black males kill one-another at a rate over a thousand fold that of police.

And BLM as a political organization (not a social movement) is a fundraising tool for the DNC. The DNC is hardly even liberal, they are certainly not going to fix the problem of police abuse, or any sort of race issues.

We are talking about a socia-economic problem that has persisted over the years, that goes well beyond police brutality. And please site the figures that show police brutality by race. And please take into account the unreported ones. I believe you will see a disproportionate amount of African-Americans on the list

Use Google. It’s all available. Search terms are everything. 3000 black vs black murders annually, against a handful of law enforcement engagements gone bad? And that’s a few hundred deaths for all races. In fact way more white perps are gunned down by Leo’s! But it’s the slightly disproportionate rate between the races that is portrayed as only POC suffering at the hands of the police. Meanwhile black people slaughter one another left and right, and the culture of violence within their communities prevents citizens from assisting in investigations. It appears that POC don’t actually care about “black lives,” as they refuse, year after year, to even begin to acknowledge or address the violence perpetrated 24/7 against themselves.

Treating people as if they were evil for not wanting what Democrats were selling lead to Trump having a viable candidacy the first place. Doubling down on that disrespect has pushed many who might have not even voted for him given an acceptable alternative into distrust of the media that was fixated on doing him in at all costs. Thus a large segment of the population now thinks that, since they were treated so badly, the dark, insane world of conspiracy internet information is more reliable.

Congratulations on the same sort of rhetoric and thinking that created this problem for keeping it going. Turning what was a fringe group think into a cause celebre and increasing it’s sway.

Antifa is lame. Lame because whoever uses the term is too tired to say the whole word: Antifascism. You use the term assigned to you by Tucker Carlson. “Antifa” is the evolution of those rich white kids from Santa Cruz who’d come up to Oakland to stomp windshields wearing fresh black fits.

Surgery ? Ever heard of PPE protocols? One slip and your surgeon starts over when donning garb for your operation.

Equating masking as part of maintaining a STERILE FIELD with grabbing the same mask worn to 6 different stops in my day off my dashboard is like most lib remarks, utterly lacking common sense or logic.

Object of masking to prevent and slow down covid spread is NOT STERILITY! Got it? It’s to prevent your Snot and Spit from flying around. So you can stop with the false and distracting “equivalencies” now. It’s dishonest and divisive.
In The USA It’s Freedom and Justice For All. Maybe you’re not OK with that?

Criminal Justice = no profiling and evidence based conviction Not Snitch or undercover cop ” confessions”

Economic justice = living wages for all Farmers and Workers! Fair housing and free Public Education NOT private and religious cult “charters”.

Health Justice = public health Initiatives and Mandates for the Benifit of the least able among us.. including free vaccines and masking, sanitizer etc.

I understand the weak premise behind the inclusion of wearing cloth barriers but haven’t a whit of patience to argue the idiocy. At this point the crybaby maskaholics are hopelessly devoted.

I was replying to eureka resident who (compared masking in surgery to masking mid pandemic) said “Nest time you have suyrgery I think you should insist non of the health care workers wear surgical masks — that’ll show those libtards… ”

Your comparison is absurd. People refusing to wear a face diaper and voicing their opinion is compared to 91 people losing their lives, the looting of 7500 businesses, and 30,000 Jewish males sent to concentration camps to a certain death is on equal ground??? Really!!

As absurd as anti-maskers and anti-vaxxers wearing a star of David in protest to compare their “plight” to that of the Jews in Nazi Germany and occupied territories. If they want to protest then that is fine, but not inside a store where an elderly immunocompromised member of someone’s family may be shopping. That is absolutely selfish. Who gives a fuck if you don’t want a vaccine, or to wear a mask, just don’t infringe on anyone else’s rights and safety. And they aren’t defending my freedoms, I can take care of that myself, thank you.

I am saying this is how fascism takes root. A small group becomes a big group. If it’s denounced early it can be stamped out. . To not denounce them and to excuse them worries me, because to me it means your OK with this and if there would have participated. “ Sievers said she felt threatened and betrayed by the shouting crowd. “I’ve helped these people for over 10 years,” she explained. “[And,] I didn’t feel safe…All I felt they wanted was fear and blood.” And what if children were present I can’t imagine how much it would have scared them. Sooooo….. your OK with this?

Definitely not ok with it. However, comparing it to some kind of a growing fascist threat ignores the grievances the protesters were voicing. They are over the overreaching control of government, which reminds me of fascism more than a “flashmob ” of belligerent, yet harmless protesters. Are you aware that fascism has a real definition?

Fascism is not left or right wing. Pick up a dictionary, there is a real definition. The United States Constitution defines government overreach, doesn’t matter if an overwhelming majority of Americans are brainwashed fat morons, they don’t get to change the definitions.

While it’s true that the left/right designations do, at times, seem rather arbitrary, they in fact have historical grounding in where one locates one’s loyalty in relation to the aristochracy and religious athority (especially in Europe). Traditional far right wing values intersect with fascism in this regard, for example catholic Bishops in Spain backed, and even funded fascist pistoleros in labor struggles before the Sanish civil war. Opostion to the old traditional power is more in line with the left, as in comunism, which can potentially become totalitarian, not fascist.

The original meaning of fascism can be traced back to the ancient heraldry fasces symbol (a bundle of rods bound together) signifying the people bound into cohersive social relationships. It’s rather peculiar that the anti-mandate folks choose only these minor inconveniences out a sea of of otherwize fascistic institutionalised dominanc of modern society.

Nationalism is a key characteristic of fascism. That’s part of why Nazis and Italian Fascistas hated communism so much, because it was left-wing and internationalist. Yes, fascism is considered right-wing. You can have autocratic dictatorial left-wing governments also, but fascism wouldn’t be the right word for them.

Entering an open business with the intent to steal less than $950 worth of property is shoplifting under California state law (Penal Code 495.5). Shoplifting is usually treated as a misdemeanor — unless you have some major prior convictions — punishable by a half-year in county jail and fines of up to $1,000.

So, you want to end all vaccinations that have reduced or wiped out horrible diseases over the course of my lifetime and beyond? I remember polio and saw children in braces in school. Childhood vaccines for smallpox, polio, diphtheria, etc. have allowed people to live and decide that vanes are bad. Totally irrational. Why not spend some computer time researching the diseases that we have been saved from. Look at what happens to the human body if people listen to you. The suffering, the death.

People are free to believe or not believe whatever they want. There is no “threat of social media disinformation,” and the claim of a “threat” is set up as an excuse to censor true content – or to actually prevent people from disagreeing with the government/media.

For example: no one on earth doesn’t know that Anthony Fauci thinks that coronavirus vaccines are “safe and effective.” Everyone knows that he thinks that and everyone knows that the media and the government say that he is the Vicar of Science.

“I was hesitant,” Legault, 61, said. She and her husband decided they wanted to wait to see what happened as more people got the shot — but they were also alarmed by what they saw online.

“You’re hearing a lot of things on media and, you know, Facebook and stuff and you know, you’re seeing videos on YouTube and it’s kind of scary. So we were really unsure,” she said. ”
https://www.cbc.ca/news/health/can-covid-unvaccinated-regret-move-vaccine-hesitant-1.6208044

She almost died and has permanent lung damage so that she carries around supplement oxygen now. She wants others to hear her story because she feels it might save some lives. That sort of story is the media saying that anti vaxxerism has consequences and it needs to be made public because covid has been trivialized by those who want to cast doubt on vaccination. Just because some anti vaxxer thinks the government is lying doesn’t exempt them from responsibility for their own lies.

What the government/media is doing is saying that they are able to dictate what is true, and then saying that you’re not allowed to disagree with them. This is really a hardcore extremist position for anyone to take.

That is at the core of any of these discussions about “misinformation.” They flood the discussion with gibberish, like “oh someone on TikTok is spreading a rumor about people getting kidnapped in parking lots” or whatever. But what they are actually saying, at the core of the matter, is that it is against the rules for you to think differently than they tell you to think.

Duh! It’s not “the truth” that is controlled. It is acting on thinking that creates danger for others that’s the problemand what is controlled. Typhoid Mary thought it was nonsense that she could not feel sick yet spread disease. People tried to dissuade her from her beliefs because it would have meant she saw a reason for cooperation. But in the end it was not her beliefs that got her into trouble. She defied the community insistence that she refrain from acting as a cook despite what she believed and it was that, not her belief, that ended up getting her confined for life.

The executive (including FEMA) are not exempt. The legislative and judiciary branches are co-equal and self-managed, so executive orders can’t apply to them by definition.
Postal workers are also not exempt: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/factcheck/2021/09/16/fact-check-postal-workers-follow-osha-vaccine-guidance/8295566002/

Because 1) the Constitution has a religious freedom clause, so the government created by it can not just up and ignore it because it wants to, 2) the States have some Constitutional authority to take action when the power is not given by the Constitution to the Feds, 3) in reflection of that, most States that do not have the power granted to them in their own Constitutions allow other governments freedom of action. Layer after layer of power without the need to bow to the Feds unless the Constitution specifically says so. Otherwise it might just as well be the PRC.

Hello! Constitution? Yes indeedy. “Fuck ignorance” of all kinds.

You know what made people “essential heroes” in the first place? Doing what was needed in the service of others in a time when that entailed some risk that the others were avoiding. Guess what? Doing what is needed now includes getting vaccinated even if it entails a lot less risk. There is no room in the definition of heroic for resting on laurels.

Tell the police

Shelby

This “tell the police” BS is so ridiculous. It comes across as “mommy, somebody did something I didn’t like and they need to get in trouble.” Like second-grade level thinking. This woman with her camera CHOSE to stay there and take video. If she truly was concerned about her safety, she could have walked outside. Our society has been so infantilized by the need for safety at all costs it’s a wonder we aren’t all wearing diapers. There should be community concern for safety, yes, but where is the line? Where is the line people? Will you be happy when there are 0 new cases and 0 new deaths in this country? Because that is never going to happen. We need to start thinking about the bigger picture and focusing less on this petty BS and we certainly don’t need to be calling the police over masks (unless of course, we didn’t learn much in 2nd grade).

You could say the same thing for the protesting group, minus the leaving with products without paying (if that did indeed happen). They obviously hold a strong opinion too. I didn’t see any violence in this video. I didn’t see anyone spewing spit in anyone’s face. The reporting of this story is obviously biased as 3/4 of the writing favors one side of a story and then the last quarter (if that) points out that perhaps there is more to the story. Maybe before we go crying to mommy and daddy (in other words, call the police) maybe we should think critically about what is going on. Ask questions. Try to understand. Dialogue. It’s the only way forward. That, or violence. And this was not violence. If anyone calls this violence my guess is those people have lived incredibly sheltered, easy lives, and also probably don’t read much. Opinions, of course!

Am I OK with what? That Sievers did not FEEL safe? We cannot protect everyone’s feelings. We can’t even protect people from violence most of the time, so tell me, how are we supposed to also protect people’s feelings too? In watching the video everyone looked safe to me. And if someone did not feel safe, they could have left the situation. I am sorry Sievers got her feelings hurt by what appears to be people she is acquainted with however, I stand by my statement that this is definitely not worthy of law enforcement involvement. And comes across as an infantilized response to another’s strong opinion. I will not stand for the sheriff’s policing masks. They are understaffed and we’ve got actual threats of violence we need them dealing with.

Why should she be the one to leave? Because she is the one saying that she felt they were out for blood. If I was in a situation where I truly felt a few people were out for blood I would not stay by my cash register in full view, pull out my phone and start recording. Her actions are not matching her words. I don’t think she was really afraid as these people did not seem “out for fear and blood.” They seem like they have strong opinions about what is going on with our society and they are not alone in the opinions they hold. Both sides need to get off their moral high ground and we need to start discussing and listening to our fellow communities members who hold strong differing opinions. Roundtable discussions, discussions IN PERSON with your neighbor who believes differently from you. We are not going to solve the escalating division and county’s problems on Kym’s comment forum, and we are not going to solve our problems by taking videos of what appears to be a non-violent protest and calling a strong opinion violence.

You are making a lot of assumptions based on this article. Perhaps there is more to this story, and this article alludes to that being the case. I am definitely not okay with someone coming into my house, acting all crazy, getting into my face, and taking what they want. However, drawing a parallel between my private house and a private business designed to provide services to a community are two completely different things.

You said it private business, they set the rules. Didn’t your mother ever tell you “ my house my rules” Don’t like the rules don’t shop there. Do I need to repeat the Russian proverb to you again? Spin it how ever you want. What they did and how they did it was wrong. You making excuses for what they did makes you complacent and a part of the problem

Shelby

Reply to  e fox

Yes, that’s your opinion, that my asking questions and having a conversation about nuance and the complexities of our social reality means I am “complacent and a part of the problem.” You see, I feel the same about you. Not that you are complacent, because you are not. You obviously care to discuss, which in my mind means you are not complacent. But obviously, we don’t think alike here. Second, my opinion is that you are part of the problem, as you fail to ask questions or seek further understanding, and just want to repeat the same proverb over and over again even though it’s not advancing the conversation. Seems like we are at the point where we will just have to agree to disagree, but I do appreciate the convo. Enjoy the rainy day. 🙂

Again, a lot of assumptions are being made on this comment thread based on what I assume to be incomplete information. There is ALWAYS more to a story than any one article can represent. Seems as though neither was the case here.

Violence isn’t the only red line. Their behavior was childish and stupid. People are quitting the service industry in droves partly because of bullies like these. Shelby

Reply to  CLouis

Totally agree with you on all counts. What I’m not agreeing with is the call for police enforcement, the dramatization as if these people are cold-blooded killers, the dramatization of this cashier’s “bravery” in what I see to be a pretty non-threatening incident. As I said, people don’t know what real violence is if we are making this big of a deal out of this “childish stupid behavior” which is all that it is. Why do we feel the need to call the cops on “childish stupid behavior” that’s intended to make a statement, not cause bodily harm, is all I’m saying. Why do we feel the need to turn “childish stupid behavior” that is the result of a strongly held opinion into a viewpoint designed to decimate that individual’s overall character? All I’m pointing out is that we are WAY TOO NARROW-MINDED. Way too quick to judge based on incomplete facts and stories. More in-person dialogue is needed, we need to be asking more questions, we need to be seeking understanding rather than jumping to judgment, we need more empathy on both sides.

Actually that is completely mendacious crap you pulled off the Infowars or some other piece of shit website.

Here are the FACTS:

Look for a mask made with at least two layers of fabric. It should cover your nose and mouth without large gaps. The mask should have ear loops or ties so you can adjust it. For people who wear glasses, look for a mask with a bendable border at the top so you can mold the mask to fit the bridge of your nose and prevent your glasses from fogging. Professional masks should be reserved for health care workers caring for patients on the front lines.”

Science is numbers. Cloth masks study says 37% effective. Wear 3 and feel safe with your vaccine. If the unvaccinated vector morons can give it to you, the vaccinated vector morons can give it to you. More likely an unvaccinated vector moron does? How much more likely? Like 250% (95% compared to 37%)?

I know you’re passionate. It’s because you’ve been spoon fed fear driven bs.

Those yahoos in the video are wrong, I’ll agree. I’ll also tell you this much- if you aren’t doing everything you can to ‘stay safe,’ don’t ask me to do something that is less effective than what you can do alone.

The entire thing is a farcical bunch of crap. Not the virus. Not the deaths. The hypocrisy of the ‘leaders’ and the manipulated holding self-righteousness tightly to smash freedom demanding Americans over the head with. The push pull could end in a shattered society.

The state of our nation is grim. The direction we are headed is worse.

I don’t want you to stop wearing your mask. I do want anybody who’s willing to get a shot. I will not be mandated in to doing what you insist. It’s just not going to happen. Those are the rules. What will you do with yourself to make the best of it.

If the masks work their should be SOME correlation on a chart, between mask mandates and cases declining. There is none! Unless you cherry pick, which is probably what your links to “studies” have done. If masks work you should breeze through this test. You cannot! Refute that first if your interested in a serious debate.

I have no doubt that you did what you always do, ran to Google, posted the first few links that confirm your bias, post it without reading.

This is from your first link:

“Overall, direct evidence of the efficacy of mask use is supportive, but inconclusive. Since there are no RCTs, only one observational trial, and unclear evidence from other respiratory illnesses, we will need to look at a wider body of evidence.”

No time ATM for the others. Same shit I’m sure.

From YOUR link:

“Overall, our understanding of the relative merits of different cloth mask designs and materials is still limited.”

The “science” is far from settled. And the National Acadamy of Sciences, who recieves it’s funding most likely from the gov, is not going to recommend anything contrary to the narrative, nor is the CDC, FDA or Kym Kemp.

There’s plenty of studies to the contrary that I won’t waste my time posting because you won’t read them. You are uninterested in serious debate.

The bottom line is that there’s an entire planet out there with masks, no masks and totally disparate results. There is ZERO correlation overall and you can’t get around that. That is why you and eveyone else in the mask cult refuse to take a simple test, that, if you passed (you failed), would vindicate your position.

It’s like saying that people are starving you, and making you homeless because you won’t get off the couch and actually put your time in building your work experience.

Does it matter when our MAINSTREAM MEDIA is clearly weaponized against us.

The FEMA healthcare workers that are replacing the non-vaccinated nurses and doctors are NOT required to get vaccinated.

So they fire the non-vaccinated for not being vaccinated and then replacing them with non-vaccinated people paid by the Feds. Makes total sense…

Allowing the Government to dictate how we educate our children was the biggest mistake we’ve ever made.

Until we fix this, America will never truly prosper

This is the sort of casual assertion that might be 1% true but 99% untrue that are promulgated by conspiracy websites. It’s always hyperbole at best and an outright lie at worst. But it always avoids looking at its own behavior. It always lacks perspective. To such people, a vaccine that causes a dangerous reaction in one person is a great evil while a disease that kills a thousand more is dismissed. To keep holding onto that idea, believers are forced to announce conspiracies to lie by the government, the media and 99% of medical doctors. They have no sense of perspective and angrily epitomize that saying about tossing the baby out with the bath water. baby

“who fear the covid vaccine”…
Is that how you’ve twisted your view of people hesitant to take the covid vaccine? It’s insulting and ironic, coming from a mandate supporter ready to give up civil liberties because of their fear.
Ya and we “all” aren’t over picky …blah blah.

Humanity is being pushed into a direction that is worse than simply being dead. This is the hill to die on, because it is guaranteed to become 100x worse if they succeed with this push.

Do you want to live in a world where you need to present your papers for every day life?
Do you want to live in a world where you need to get permission from your government to travel?
Do you want to live in a world where you’re forced to take experimental medical products every year in the name of “safety” and “science”?
Do you want to live in a world where science has been redefined to “just trust the science” and questioning “the science” is severely punished?

We’re at a turning point and you need to get ready for rough times ahead.

Heinlein was a competent writer of fiction with a lot of foolish hangups. One being the glorification of violence. He artifically grafted a sense of ethics on some of the violent characters and called them good. In the real world, violence leads to more violence until society collapses in exhaustion. It does not make people good. His solution for ugliness of acts of violence was to have characters who gave as good as they got in ever increasing doses. The heros survived, the weak died. If you want the “politeness” of Heinlein, look at criminal gangs. The “manners” so admired are nothing but being submissive of the more powerful and making the less power bow to you in turn. And what gang has ever made a decent society? They make brutal societies.

Compare the covid mRNA shot with the efficacy of any other vaccine.

How many people do you know who got tetnus after having a tetnus shot? Measles? Polio? Smallpox?

The covid vaccine seems to have the same efficacy of the flu shot with a much higher chance of complications.

Got anything but supposition regarding complication rates from mRNA vaccines? Outside of course assuming any mention on VAERS means a vaccine related complication? Or believing anti vaxxer doomsday scenarios that haven’t happened?

The covid vaccines are spectacularly effective at first but the protection wanes. That is sad. But still infinitely better at saving lives and health over doing nothing. Which seems to be what anti vaxxers’ alternative- if you don’t die, you may have better immunity than vaccines give. Well duh. It that big hurdle of not dying or getting so sick you’re scarred for life that they flick off as unimportant.

Hey to evvvvvveryone on this thread

I love you all

this is said so called “strawberry”
you hide behind masks, and screen names, and know oh so much about me and the group of people I stand with, not lead, but stand with

continue to misconstrue the facts, and one sided arguments, proving that in fact you don’t stand for equality and freedom of speech and freedom of choice, and censor any opposition to the current mainstream media’s agenda
or look further into why an emergency untested shot is being pushed upon millions, while silencing your opinions through mass masking of the population
Fauci fabricated the aids scandal. Gates family is based in eugenics.
these are evil liars who have duped humanity once again
I fight for all of you
the group I stand with fights for you all
naïve as you may be
i still love you all

if you know me in real life
dont hide behind a screen name
come say whatever you’d like to my face and have a conversation like a real human

I have no tolerance for idiots. Known you for a long time, but what a stupid ideal to lay your claim on. It’s simple- you get the shot to be a part of society and not kill old people. If you don’t, your a selfish asshole. Period.

Fair enough and it’s a legitimate argument. I thankyou for bringing this up. Im sorry I just don’t trust the data and your claim. To the extent of how much is also what I’m curious about on transmission and expression of symptoms. I’ve heard 10 times less symptoms. I still need to read more about it. Also I actually am thankful others have been brave to get the vaccine. I will continue to question my decisions. I haven’t completely signed off because that would not be fair if my argument is to make the best logical decision. Simple logic also isn’t necessarily the best decision. It’s a best guess on the information you have. I’m still trying to learn. What I’ve learned is every person varies vastly. What might help some might not apply to others. Lots 9f factors but all in all the science to me isn’t very convincing. I also feel any science that does speak for natural immunity is hush hushed.

Nooo
Guest
Nooo

Nonsense. There are plenty of studies on naturally acquired immunity. All of them mention though mention the risk of death and injury needed to acquire it.

I hate the term “natural immunity” as its used by anti vaxxers. Both vaccines and viruses create immunity using the same biology. There is no magically different way of triggering immunity. It’s all one. Just as older people have more difficulty mounting a defense against covid, they are more prone to reinfection even if they survived the illness in the first place. It’s the nature of their immune systems.

The difference in immunity is that, while an mRNA vaccine does not necessarily create as broad an immunity that surviving the illness does,it also is leagues ahead safer than getting sick. For the exact same reason- the virus has a dozen diffent ways to kill you. mRNA vaccines only target the most likely one. So yes, if repeated injections are needed by the elderly, then go for it. The alternative is not what the anti vaxxers say.

I agree w you that Strawberry is a tool. But…this selfish and disgraceful action at ENF was not over vaccination. I myself have concerns about mandatory vaccination! This was about simply masking. Which is the least thing we can all do for each other- even if we don’t believe it helps!! See- you don’t have to agree to just behave with consideration for others. And that is the simple lesson these morons failed with their idiot parade. They are the most selfish and arrogant group of idiots…I’d like to see pictures of them all so I know who sucks and can avoid them in all circles. They should all be banned from both ENFs, WildBerries and both Co-ops if those businesses really care about their patrons’ health…

Amazing how little cohesion our society seems to have, even in a relative mono-culture like imperial Von Humboldt.
Dissent is part of the democratic charade for sure, but the dissent I’m observing mostly speaks to our weak culture and our lack of social integrity.
We really do need to break up the union so each faction can have nations again, the division over masking is fucking pathetic.
America is the biggest has-been on the world stage, and we all are the proof!

Hard to disagree canyon oak but this is still my favorite place to live. There are dummies everywhere, but I do think we cultivate a certain kind here in this country. It has something to do with our independence, our selfishness, desire to be heard and all mixed together with really bad information sources. It was definitely better when we all agreed on the basic facts. Used to be old Cronkite on the 7 o’clock news now get our news from whatever idiot wants to put news on Facebook. That’s not helping.

What you did here isn’t even about the vaccine. All you have to do is wear a mask of your choosing for 15 minutes while you are inside a business that was created by another citizen. This is a private business. They can set any standards of conduct they want inside their store. You do not have the “freedom’ to trample all over their right to protect their employees and create a safe environment as they see fit. The employees working there said they were scared of you and your friends. What you did was abusive. You’re selfish and shortsighted. You don’t stand up for me or anyone I know.

Do private business owners not have the right to make and enforce rules on their property? Plenty of businesses have decided to ignore health orders and not enforce it. The county health department looks the other way and doesn’t care to enforce it either. But if this business decides they want to uphold the rule, then don’t they have the right?
