The California Police Chiefs Association honored Fortuna Police Chief William Dobberstein last Friday for “his 25 years of service to law enforcement, and for his service to that association as a member of its board of directors,” said a Fortuna Police Department press release today.

Dobberstein will retire Friday, January 17 and former Humboldt County Sheriff MIke Downey will step in as interim Police Chief for four to six months until a replacement for Dobberstein can be located and approved.
