Car crash

Firefighters on scene [Photo from Garberville Fire]

Please remember that information gathered from initial reports is subject to revision as more facts become available.

CHP officers rushed through Garberville with lights and sirens just before 6:00 p.m. this evening. They were responding to an accident involving a truck with large equipment that left the south side of the Alderpoint roadway just above the water tank for the Meadows Subdivision.

The vehicle was headed west.  As the straightaway below the switchbacks ended and the road swept sharply right, the vehicle appeared to be unable to negotiate the turn.  It proceeded straight, crossing the eastbound lane, and plunged over the hill, landing a few dozen feet below the roadway.

A fire ignited, but firefighters quashed that immediately.

Alderpoint Road is open to one-way controlled traffic. Westbound traffic use caution below the switchbacks.

Update 7:50 p.m.: The driver did not survive.

CPR was attempted and an air ambulance was requested. However, the attempt was unsuccessful.

Thanks to all the emergency personnel including those from Garberville Fire who are at the scene.

Maybe it’s the Oregon contractor doing the PG&E work to “Harden The Grid” What’s the name of the company? Wilson? Tragic for the folks involved.

He was a lineman from Mississippi. He left behind 3 kids and a wife. The reason for the crash is being pointed at brake failure but is still undetermined. He was doing restoration work for PG&E
