Redwood Coast Village Blood Drive June 5th

The following is a press release from Redwood Coast Village:

Redwood Coast Village invites the community to join them on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at the Northern California Community Blood Bank in Eureka for a donation celebration! Hamburgers, hot dogs, and other dinner items will be served as a thank you to donors.

Date:                     Wednesday June 5, 2019

Time:                     4pm to 7pm

Where:                 Northern California Community Blood Bank, 2524 Harrison Ave, Eureka, CA 95501

Giving blood is safe, easy, and takes just an hour in four easy steps from start to finish.

Registration (7-10 minutes). When you arrive to donate, you will be asked to give your name, address, and telephone number, and Photo I.D.

Medical History (15-20 minutes). Answer some confidential questions about your medical history to confirm you’re eligible to give blood. Your temperature, pulse, blood pressure and hematocrit will be checked.

Blood Donation (15-20 minutes). After cleaning and sterilizing your arm, a phlebotomist will insert a single-use sterile needle and draw approximately one pint of blood will be drawn.

Rest and Refreshments (10-15 minutes). After the blood donation, you will be asked to rest for 10-15 minutes The Blood Bank will provide dinner items, along with water, juice, cookies, pretzels, and a variety of other snacks.

Requirements for blood donors:

  • Be at least 16 years old* (with a signed consent form)
  • Weigh at least 110 pounds
  • Be in good health – no cold or flu symptoms for at least 48 hours
  • No tattoos within at least the last 30 days (ear piercing is okay if performed in a jewelry store or doctor’s office with new, sterile earrings)

“Putting a blood drive together is just one of the fun and important activities Village members and volunteers can get involved in, so come on down and find out more about us and make a difference in someone’s life,” says JoAnn Schuch, founding board member of Redwood Coast Village.
