Traffic Moving Slow After Pickup Truck and Semi Collide in Richardson’s Grove

Traffic CollisionA collision between a Dodge Ram 5500 pickup truck towing a trailer and a semi-truck hauling a loaded box trailer occurred at approximately 4:49 a.m. Monday in the northbound lanes of Highway 101 at the Richardson Grove stoplight just north of the Mendocino County line, partially blocking traffic and leaving the pickup undrivable, according to the California Highway Patrol traffic incident log. Northbound traffic is still affected while crews clear the roadway as of 7:13 a.m.

The extent of injuries was unknown, but the person reporting told dispatch that the occupants of the vehicles were able to get out after the crash.

The semi, identified in dispatch logs as a G.B. Hunt truck, received damage to its right-front tire. Its loaded trailer had a reported gross weight of approximately 80,000 pounds.

Because of the size of the commercial vehicle, CHP requested heavy-duty towing. Redwood Tow of Garberville was dispatched to remove the damaged vehicles.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation, and no additional information about injuries was immediately available.
