PG&E Service Truck Crashed, Blocked Both Southbound Lanes of Highway 101 Near Phillipsville Early This Morning

traffic accidentA traffic collision involving a PG&E service truck blocked both southbound lanes of Highway 101 near mile marker 20.34, just south of Phillipsville, shortly after 5:20 a.m. today, Monday, July 6. No injuries were reported.

Traffic was heavily impacted during the cleanup. One southbound lane reopened shortly after 6 a.m. after the disabled truck was moved into the No. 2 lane. CHP continued working with Caltrans to fully clear the scene.

The tow truck removed the disabled vehicle at approximately 6:17 a.m. CHP began reopening the remaining southbound lanes shortly after 7:10 a.m., with northbound traffic briefly affected during final cleanup operations near the northbound weigh scales. By approximately 7:14 a.m., all lanes were reported open.

According to the California Highway Patrol dispatch log, the white PG&E service truck left the roadway and struck an embankment in the southbound lanes. The crash initially blocked both southbound lanes of Highway 101.

The driver requested Redwood Towing to recover the vehicle. CHP later requested assistance from the California Department of Transportation with a blade truck to help clear debris and reopen the highway.

No further details about the cause of the crash have been released at this time.
