Body of Missing Arcata Woman Found Near Wedding Rock

Around noon today, the body of a 33-year-old Arcata woman who went missing a little after 6 p.m. yesterday was found near Wedding Rock in Patricks Point State Park north of Trinidad, confirmed Samantha Karges, spokesperson for the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department.  The body was in a difficult to reach location about 200 feet down, Karges said and has not yet been recovered.

“Family members have been notified,” Karges stated. But at this time, the woman’s name is not being released.

Multiple agencies have assisted in the search for the missing woman including State Parks, Cal Fire, the Coast Guard, Eel Valley River Technical Rescue, Southern Humboldt County Technical Rescue, and the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office.

Searchers from Southern Humboldt County Technical Rescue who scoured the Lost Coast Trail for the missing Canadian hiker from Wednesday night through Saturday are now helping to pull the woman’s body from where it is lodged near Wedding Rock in Patricks Point State Park.

Members of the highly respected volunteer crew have spent at least a portion of every day except one since last Wednesday looking for either the Canadian man or the Arcata woman in challenging conditions. Besides the physically exhausting search, the crews have to deal with the emotional fallout from both situations.

NOTE: The original version stated that the victim was 32. She was 33.

My heart goes out to the members of our amazing Southern Humboldt County Technical Rescue team. The emotional toll must be incredibly hard for them. They are our heroes.

The search teams work so hard and deserve nothing but high praise for how much they do. I’d give them all a round of hot chocolate if I were there.

What happened with that Canadian guy? Why are these people out by themselves? Survival instincts and common sense seem to be going by the wayside

Hiking is no more dangerous than driving? Do you never drive? Being a pedestrian is also dangerous in Humboldt so that must mean you never drive or walk right? Let’s not pass judgement on people living their lives, no matter what you do life is dangerous but you still must live and solo hiking is hands down the best and just like with going in the sun, going to concerts, etc, it does have its dangers.

Body was found 200 feet down? Only place I can think of in that area is “Crack-in-Rocks”.
That is a dangerous place from the top-side.

Do you have a picture of crack in rocks, what it looks like from the top? I am Bianca’s best friend and just desperately trying to understand everything.

The other photos (other thread) pretty much show the fall location as ‘Crack In Rocks’…
If you go along the top… through thick brush…
the ‘crack’ suddenly opens up on you.

I don’t think the ‘State Park Department’ likes to ‘talk’ about it…
they probably don’t want people to go up there. Dangerous spot.
I ‘discovered’ it at about 10 years old. Scared the shit out of me !

They used to have a few signs & ‘low’ fences posted up there.
You can access a portion of the crack from the bottom.
