Three Seats on Rio Dell’s City Council Open for General Election in November

This is a press release from the City or Rio Dell:

Three seats on the Council are open for the general election on November 6, 2018. The four‐year terms of current

Councilmembers Debra Garnes, Tim Marks and Mayor Pro Tem Gordon Johnson will expire at the end of this year.

Interested persons are encouraged to pick up a nomination packet at City Hall, 675 Wildwood Avenue. Office hours are

8:00am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday. The packet contains vital information and necessary forms in order to

complete the nomination process and appear on the ballot.

The packet is available now but must be returned by Friday, August 10, 2018 by 5:00pm. Interested persons are

encouraged to collect the packet as soon as possible as the requirements may take time to complete.

The City of Rio Dell holds City Council meetings on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday’s of every month, in addition to special

meetings that are held on an as‐needed basis. City Councilmembers are also assigned by the Mayor to represent the

interests of the City on various regional Boards and Commissions, including but not limited to the Humboldt Waste

Management Authority (HWMA), Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCo), Humboldt County Association of

Governments (HCAOG), Humboldt County Convention & Visitors Bureau, Humboldt Transit Authority (HTA), League of

California Cities ‐ Redwood Empire Division (LOCC), Redwood Region Economic Development Commission (RREDC),

Redwood Coast Energy Authority (RCEA), Humboldt/Del Norte Hazardous Response Authority and more. In addition,

there are various internal committees that members may be assigned to. Typically, a City Councilmember will be

assigned as either a lead or alternate for 2‐4 of these various regional and internal committees at any given time. Travel

expenses are reimbursed.

The City of Rio Dell does not require a filing fee to run for office.
