A Celebration of Life honoring beloved Arcata artist and friend Brian Federici will be held June 14 at Redwood Raks, remembering a man whose creativity and warmth brought people together for decades.

“She had a remarkable ability to remember everyone she worked with, often sharing a story about each person.”

John Pinches, a legendary Mendocino County rancher, budget hawk, and three-term county supervisor remembered for his folksy wisdom and fierce advocacy for rural residents, has died.

“He volunteered with the Island Mountain Volunteer Fire Department and was good friends with many people in the area. He loved skiing, physical work, and backpacking in the wilderness (as well as playing ping pong in Garberville), with his buddies.”

Charles Bowen, born in Arcata and deeply rooted in Hoopa and Eureka, was known for his fierce love of family and the remarkable transformation he made later in life to become a devoted husband and father.

“Sally had a huge heart, and a unique ability to make each of us feel special.”

“Though Melissa spent nearly her entire life in Humboldt County and always considered Eureka her true home, she had recently moved to Warsaw, New York. It was there, on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, that her brilliant light unexpectedly dimmed.”

Stevo Vidnovic—musician, sculptor, actor, cartoonist, and self-declared pirate—was struck and killed while riding his bicycle in Eureka on Tuesday morning, May 6, 2025. The collision claimed the life of one of Humboldt County’s most  eccentric and creative spirits.
