Charles “Bury” Davis Bowen III
January 26, 1978 -May 6, 2025

Charles was born in Arcata to Margaret Trimble Tatum. His early years he spent with his mom, sister LaDeena and brother BobbyLee. He was also fortunate to be able to spend time with his brother Kyle. He spent his youth going between the Hoopa Valley and Eureka. Bury was very family oriented and enjoyed being amidst family and all his cousins. He saw his Auntie Laura Trimble as a second mom and her children were more like siblings to him than cousins. hence the term… brother/cousin he used frequently. He loved to talk about Jerm, Adam, big cousin Missie and little baby Leena. That’s how he always thought of Leena… As the baby. In addition to auntie Laura’s house, he spent a lot of time at Aunt Bec’s, as he lovingly called her, enjoying time with his cousins Toby and April, Tob’s and Ape’s as he liked to say. there and also Auntie Laura Borden. Lainie was the older cousin. He and Huna were close in age. I believe they were a bit competitive in most aspects of their teenage lives. As a young teen he met for the first time his Auntie Cheesup. Their bond was instant and profound. Cheesup had an unconditional love for Bury as he did for her. It was amazing to see.

Charles was very hard headed and lived life his own way. He did not keep in touch with family for awhile.

In 2013 he met his future wife. The first couple years were up and down but Charles decided it was time to be a family man. He put his past behind him and focused on family, got married and had kids. He became very much involved with his family again and I was glad to witness the transformation in him. He became the most amazing husband and father I ever saw.

Charles got his license and a job for the first time at 40! He was so proud. Thank you Amy!

I am amazed and awed everyday by the powerful, forgiving, loving person that he is.

I love you my husband.

Charles is preceded in death by his sons Ferin Barber and Dylan Barber. Father in laws Clifford Andersen and Mike Sweaney. Great grandma Lena, grandfather Donny Trimble, uncle Simp.

Charles is survived by his wife Athena, children Rowan Barber, Lena Cross, Charlee Bowen, Hunter Barber, Laura Barber, Drake Barber. Grandmother Syd McCovey, Mother Tosh Tatum, sister LaDeena, brothers BobbyLee Tatum and Kyle Cross. Auntie Bec, Aunties Laura Trimble, Laura Borden. And numerous other family members

Wake will be held at First Assembly in Hoopa at 8. We recommend immediate family only.

Services open to the public will be graveside at 1 at Wauteck cemetery. Food will follow.

Honorary pallbearers include: BobbyLee Tatum, Kyle Cross, Toby, Aaron Cross, BobbyLee Tatum Jr, Hunter Barber, Drake Barber

I did not know this man, but it is obvious that he meant a lot to many people. I’m sorry you lost him so soon.
