Arcata Accepting Nominations for November 3rd Election Beginning Today

City of Arcata logoThe City of Arcata will hold a general municipal election on Tuesday, Nov. 3. Two seats on the Arcata City Council will be up for election and one measure will be included on the ballot.

The City Council adopts laws and sets policies to guide the City Manager and City staff in City operations. City Council members attend two regular City Council meetings each month, special meetings and study sessions as needed and other monthly meetings of various regional agency partners.

Nomination papers for the City Council seats will be available by appointment beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, July 13, through 1 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 7 at the City Manager’s Office in City Hall, located at 736 F St in Arcata. Issuance of nomination papers can take up to an hour and appointments are required. To make an appointment, please call (707) 822-5953.

Qualifications for individuals who wish to run for a seat on the Arcata City Council include that they must be at least 18 years old, must live within Arcata city limits, and are registered to vote at their Arcata residence address. Nominees must also obtain at least 20, but no more than 30, signatures of registered voters who reside within Arcata city limits and are registered to vote at their Arcata residence.

The ballot measure to be voted on at the November 2026 General Election is a measure to extend the term of the City’s current three-fourths of one cent (3/4¢) Transactions and Use Tax (Sales Tax).

Primary arguments for or against a ballot measure must be received by the City Clerk no later than 1 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 14, with rebuttal arguments due no later than 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 26.
