Press release from Six Rivers National Forest:

Six Rivers National Forest Gasquet Ranger District is seeking community members from diverse backgrounds to serve on the Secure Rural Schools Resource Advisory Committee. Individuals of all backgrounds are encouraged to apply through July 30 or until a full slate of candidates is reached.

The Secure Rural Schools program provides critical funding to more than 700 counties across the United States and Puerto Rico to support roads, schools and other municipal services. Funding is divided into three categories:

• Title I: Roads and Schools
• Title II: Projects on Federal Lands
• Title III: County Projects

Resource Advisory Committee members play an important role in reviewing, proposing and voting on Title II projects that support public lands and surrounding communities. These projects often focus on:

• Road, trail and infrastructure maintenance or obliteration
• Soil productivity improvements
• Forest ecosystem health improvements
• Watershed restoration and maintenance
• Wildlife and fish habitat restoration and improvement
• Noxious and invasive weed control
• Native species re-establishment

Serving on the Resource Advisory Committee offers members an opportunity to strengthen professional skills, collaborate with federal agencies, and help create lasting impacts on public lands and local communities.

“Resource Advisory Committee members bring valuable perspectives and local knowledge to projects that benefit both the forest and surrounding communities,” said Six Rivers National Forest Gasquet District Ranger Kathy Allen. “We encourage anyone interested in making a positive difference to apply.”
