Press release from Caltrans District 2:

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is continuing emergency slide repair work on State Route 299 near Buckhorn Summit in Shasta County, with construction now estimated to be completed by early July.

Beginning Monday, June 8, the eastbound lane of State Route 299 will be closed in the slide area to allow crews to complete roadway repairs after minor cracking was observed following the earlier slide event.

The preventative repair work is being completed to ensure the cracks do not develop into larger issues in the future.

Caltrans geologists and engineers have evaluated the area and confirmed there are no concerns regarding the current integrity of the roadway. Motorists may continue traveling through the area safely until the lane closure goes into effect.

Traffic through the construction zone will be under one-way traffic control, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for approximately three weeks. Motorists should plan for delays of up to 15 minutes.

The slide area is located just east of Buckhorn Summit near the Shasta-Trinity County line on State Route 299. Initial emergency repairs began earlier this year after severe weather caused damage to a pullout and a portion of the eastbound shoulder.

Drivers are encouraged to allow extra travel time and use caution when traveling through the area. Caltrans reminds motorists to slow down for workers and equipment in the construction zone.
