[Update: Forward Progress Stopped] Palmer Fire Burns 5 Acres Along Highway 253 in Mendocino County

A vegetation fire broke out Monday afternoon along State Route 253 between Booneville and Soda Springs in Mendocino County, according to CAL FIRE dispatch records.
The Palmer Fire, named for the incident commander, was reported around 1:32 p.m. and transferred to CAL FIRE Howard. Air resources, including Copter 612, a dozer, and hand crews were dispatched to the scene. As of approximately 1:40 p.m., the fire had reached an estimated 5 acres and was burning downhill under moderate rate of spread conditions, according to scanner traffic.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
Update 2:15 p.m.: Air Attack 140 and Tanker 100 have been assigned to the Palmer Fire. An additional engine and dozer have been requested.
Update 2:55 p.m.: According to scanner traffic, forward progress has been stopped. The fire is estimated to have burned approximately 10 acres.
