City of Ukiah Invites Community to Virtual Workshop on North State Street Safety and Infrastructure Improvements Tuesday
This is a press release from the City of Ukiah:
The City of Ukiah invites community members, businesses, property owners, and corridor users to participate in a virtual community workshop regarding the proposed North State Street Improvement Project between Norton Street and Low Gap Road.
The workshop will be held virtually on Tuesday, May 26, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The proposed project focuses on improving safety, accessibility, and infrastructure along one of Ukiah’s busiest transportation corridors. This section of State Street remains the last concrete segment of the former Highway 101 through Ukiah and has long presented challenges for pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists, and nearby businesses.
The project would include:
- Repair and reconstruction of deteriorated roadway sections
- Replacement of aging water and sewer utilities beneath the roadway
- Sidewalk repair and ADA accessibility improvements
- Safer pedestrian crossings and traffic calming measures
- Bicycle lane improvements
- Street trees, landscaping, and corridor beautification
The City is pursuing grant funding opportunities for the project and is seeking community feedback to help refine priorities and strengthen future applications.
“This project is fundamentally about safety and long-term investment in Ukiah’s infrastructure,” said Shannon Riley, Deputy City Manager. “We want to repair aging utilities and roadways while creating a safer and more accessible corridor for everyone who uses State Street.”
Community participation is encouraged, and attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about the project, ask questions, and provide input regarding existing conditions and future improvements.

IMHO:
Ukiah Voters: Run the city council OUT NOW !
“Safer pedestrian crossings and traffic calming measures
Bicycle lane improvements
Street trees, landscaping, and ‘corridor beautification”
They will make it impossible for the ordinary citizens to get around Ukiah !
Come and take a look at Eureka. Council spent MILLIONS in grant monies.
For the ‘no-bike’ lanes. (Did see a bike in one, riding down the sidewalk the wrong way). Acres of Green Paint.
Curb Fart-Outs… difficult to turn. A nightmare for trucks.
Concrete planters filled with weeds.
Myriads of Warning Signs.
One way fragmented ‘bicycle lane’ streets to nowhere. (Never seen a bike on it.)
Flashing signs to stop traffic on busy streets… to allow the no-bicycles safe passage.
Planned and in ‘negative’ progress:
Multi story Brutalist Barracks… with no parking.
Turned the commercial district… into a no parking zone.
Planning a glorified Stalinist Barracks with a bus terminal beneath the barracks.
(Where are they going to go ? Nowhere.)
And wait till they get done with 101… they are planning on THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of bicycles, all riding in the rain/fog/wind/dark.
(For Ukiah… riding bicycles around in 105 degree weather).
Good luck Ukiah.
