86-Year-Old Woman Airlifted From Ettersburg Area After Fall

Volunteer firefighters in rural Southern Humboldt often do far more than fight fires — something demonstrated again Tuesday afternoon in Ettersburg.
According to Peter Lawsky of the Telegraph Ridge Volunteer Fire Department, local volunteers responded around 3 p.m. after an 86-year-old woman was injured in a fall.
After assessing the woman and providing initial care, Telegraph Ridge firefighters assisted Garberville Ambulance personnel in transporting her to a landing zone established in Ettersburg.
A Cal Fire helicopter landed first. Shortly afterward, a REACH Air Medical Services helicopter arrived. Cal Fire and Telegraph Ridge crew members then helped transfer the patient from the ambulance to the helicopter before she was flown to a hospital for treatment.
For many rural communities, volunteer fire departments are often among the first people to arrive during medical emergencies. In isolated areas like Southwestern Humboldt County, local volunteers help bridge the gap between patients and advanced medical care, working alongside ambulance crews and air medical teams when needed.

A big thank you to all the volunteer firemen, Reach Air and the Coast Guard for safely transporting the women to the hospital. I hope she will recover from her fall and be fine again.
Right on!
After fall??? I feel like if it’s an emergency they should do it sometime this spring.
You had better watch your shoelaces this wk. Unless you’ve moved on to velcro straps already. Jussayin
They do much.more than bridge a gap. Usually the fire department is tasked with vehicle extraction, getting people up a hillside and even moving them to an ambulance while the ambulance crew focuses on the medical care side of it. They are an intregal part of a team of life saving care.
