Proposed 180-Foot Tower in Grotzman Creek Watershed Withdrawn

Pacific Towers has formally withdrawn its application for a proposed 180-foot cell tower in the Grotzman Creek watershed near Arcata, ending, at least for now, a contentious proposal that drew fierce neighborhood opposition.

Proposed cell tower that was to be built just east of a privately owned home at 422 Shirley Ave.
The project, proposed for a forested parcel near 422 Shirley Boulevard, had prompted packed public meetings, extensive public comment, and a detailed legal challenge from Friends of Grotzman Creek Watershed, which argued that recorded 1986 agreements restricted the property to uses “directly related to timberland use.”
On Friday, Friends of Grotzman Creek Watershed announced the company withdrew the application on May 12. In a press release issued today, Friends of Grotzman Creek Watershed described the withdrawal as a victory for residents who opposed industrial development in the forested watershed area.

NIMBYs!
Not just my backyard, my front yard, my neighbors yards, all yards. I want to see redwoods and a bay and blue skies, you can shove your industrialization up your ass.
If you need to make a cell phone call you might as well add that to your *ss!
Love it when they eat their own!
No more complaints about dropped calls
IMHO:
Hey… let’s see what they do about the proposed multi story apartment complex… right across from the school in Bayside.
Yee hah !
God forbid any progress let’s just keep driving humboldt down into the ground
You want progress move to the city.
Betcha dollars to donuts…this Jim owns a cellphone…
I don’t own one. Never had the need.
I am disabled and rarely leave home.
But.
As one comment said, Wait until they come for your landlines.
Frontier has the landlines in Willow Creek.
They are worse than mediocre.
This week, I was waiting for a telehealth appointment with a doctor and the lines were down and I didn’t even know it.
The way that they ignore servicing the landlines, it is probably just a matter of time.
Plus, so many things are now dependant on cellphones. When a software wants to send me a log in code, they default to sending it by text. Expecting a cellphone…
I will likely have to get one eventually.
But until they start using satellites instead of towers, the tower seem like a part of 21st century life.
Even if Jim moved to Denny, they’d probably follow him there.
(Denny is quite remote.)
Okay well then when your landlines are removed by Pacific Bell Corp and you’re forced onto cell phones but you can’t make 911 calls it’ll be your fault.
But you can always stand on your front porch and yell for help. You can also use two tin cans with a string and give one end to your neighbor.
I wonder to what they were opposed?
The tower seemed innocuous enough.
With the majority of residents using cellphones, rather than landlines, these kind of towers are essential.
If everyone had a Not In My Backyard attitude, none of them would have cellphones…
Seems kind of silly.
