Vehicle Goes Down Embankment off Highway 36 Near Grizzly Creek

traffic accidentA vehicle went off the road on Highway 36 Tuesday morning near the Grizzly Creek slide area, sending at least one person to the hospital with minor injuries.

The California Highway Patrol received the initial report around 7:41 a.m. of a solo vehicle collision near mile marker 16.4 on Highway 36. The vehicle, reported as a Honda, came to rest partially down a steep embankment on the east side of the slide area.

CHP logs noted major front-end damage and a broken right front hub assembly. Significant damage was also reported to the left side of the vehicle.

The CHP cad notes two occupants were in the vehicle.

The CHP also contacted the California Department of Transportation. Humboldt Towing was dispatched for vehicle recovery.

The roadway was partially blocked in the eastbound lane during the response, prompting multiple vehicles to stop.

All units were released from the scene by approximately 8:43 a.m.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by the CHP. Details remain preliminary and are based on scanner traffic and CHP dispatch logs.

The two people in the vehicle are very lucky to have only received minor injuries. There are a few spots near there on 36 where you will go all the way down to the river. If they had gone over the bank in that area, they would have received major injuries or have even been killed. I hope the one that went to the hospital is going to be OK. I would like to know why the accident happened.

Where they wrecked is that spot where you could land on the river bar. From the slide to Bridgeville is steep.

Not as bad as 299 just east of willow creek. That area is hundreds of feet down to the top of the trees
