City of Eureka Seeks Feedback on G Street Bike Boulevard

This is a press release from the City of Eureka:

city of eureka logoThe City of Eureka’s Bike Plan 2024, recommended project design concepts and proposed corridors based on existing conditions analysis, community engagement, and coordination with interagency staff. The recommended corridors best establish a network of bicycle facilities that would improve the comfort and safety for, and encourage, bicycling in the City of Eureka.

G Street between 7th and Henderson Streets was one of the proposed bicycle boulevard corridors. Based on the Bike Plan recommendation and awarded funding from Linc Housing, the “G Street Bike Boulevard” has been selected as the next City of Eureka Bicycle Boulevard Project.

Since the recent completion of the C Street Bike Boulevard, the City has received both supportive and critical feedback. Feedback is important and we’d like to hear from the community what design elements are favored and/or opposed when it comes to planning the G Street Bike Boulevard.

The G Street Bike Boulevard Survey is designed to gather input before the design process begins. Bicycle boulevards can have many different elements that can change the cyclists experience and level of traffic stress. The feedback received in this survey, will help inform the design of the G Street Bike Boulevard.

The survey will be open until April 30, 2026. All results will be made public once the survey is closed. Follow this link to take the survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/6K6PJ2N

Questions can be sent to Project Manager, Brittany Powell at [email protected] or (707) 441-4127.

IMHO:

This is A JOKE. Yes ? Hopefully it is.
Millions spent on another green painted, flower-potted, ‘no-bikes’ lane.

City Council blunders ahead with spending taxpayers money.
Going to run out of it pretty soon.

The best way to make all bike lane into CAR lanes is to vote for conservatives.

They already spent millions on H street one block over for bike lanes that see little use. The idiocy continues.

That actually sounds like a great idea.
Roundabouts calm traffic and make the intersections safer.
Arcata has a couple of those and they’re quite nice.

This adding these curb pop-outs, unsafe and ill place islands, and bike streets is out of control. All I can say is stop wasting our money and making it a pain in the 🫏 to get around this town. If i were to sit on C, H, and I street for a week, I bet there wouldn’t be more than 5 bicyclists a day go by and thats me being generous. Bikes dont need dedicated streets. What they need is to not blow through stop signs, to use hand signs, and not feel so entitled. Who ever keeps making these decisions needs to be fired because they suffer from the Dunning-Krueger effect and believe they are brilliant but in reality are not very bright.

They could pay for all the sewer laterals with these funds……but noooo! We need to eliminate polluting auto traffic, as raw sewage seeps into the bay.

My understanding is that Eureka is getting grants for these projects and they can use some of the funds for other projects? But in order to receive the grant money, they are required to put a certain amount of bike lanes within city limits.

If you’re opposed to these projects, express that in the survey they provided in the article.

Indeed, take the survey. There are a few design concept illustrations there to view. My personal belief is that direct opposition voiced via the survey will no way/no how change anyone’s mind. I think they are looking to be able to say they provided an avenue (pardon) for public input.

As with anything else that is paid for with tax dollars bike paths should be funded with a tax and yearly registration fee , this would also provide a chance to ensure riders were properly trained on the rules of the road and how to safety operate their bikes on the roads and paths and include a inspection process to ensure all bikes meet certain safety requirements ie reflectors lights and are properly maintained to ensure they are not a hazard to the riders or other traveling public , after all health and public safety over rides rights in this state
