Head-On Crash Near Ceago Vinegarden Snarls Highway 20 Traffic
A two-vehicle head-on collision on State Route 20 in Lake County sent emergency responders scrambling Tuesday afternoon and reduced the busy highway to alternating one-way traffic for an extended period, causing significant backups in both directions.
The crash was reported at approximately 3:41 p.m. between the 4900 block and 5100 block of SR 20, an area adjacent to Ceago Vinegarden, a prominent winery located along the scenic Lake County corridor. Initial notification of the collision came simultaneously through a Ford vehicle automated crash notification system and an iPhone crash detection alert, prompting an immediate emergency response.
Early reports indicated a pickup truck had collided head-on with a green Volkswagen, with debris scattered across both lanes. One vehicle was reported to be resting on its roof with significant front-end damage, according to dispatch logs, while all parties were reported out of their vehicles.
Units from multiple agencies were assigned and en route within minutes, with the first responders arriving on scene by approximately 3:46 p.m. CAL FIRE was among the agencies requested. A tow rotation request was also placed, with a St. Helena tow company called to the scene.
The collision initially blocked both lanes of Highway 20, though a reporting party later advised that all parties had moved to the roadside. Despite this, emergency personnel established a one-way traffic control pattern in the westbound lane, which remained in effect at the time of the publication of this article.
The extent of injuries was not immediately confirmed.
Motorists traveling Highway 20 through the Clear Lake corridor experienced significant delays throughout the late afternoon. Travelers in the area were advised to expect ongoing slowdowns and plan alternate routes where possible.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.

I thought Ceago had closed. Did it reopen? It had very nice grounds and tasting room and it was a shame that it closed.
It doesn’t need to be open to serve as a location marker.
It closed several years ago after the owners were deported
I just hope that all the injured people will make a complete recovery. I have travelled many time on Highway 20 head to Grass Valley and see an accident now and then. People blame the highway for the accidents, I don’t. I blame the driver’s for going too fast, cutting corners, passing when there is not enough room to do it safely, etc. Then there are those who choose to drive under the influence putting other people’s lives in danger. Please slow down a little and pay attention to the traffic. Thank you to all the First Responders who worked that accident scene. Bless you!
