A significant law enforcement presence was reported Thursday morning on the 2400 block of Elk Creek Road near Dyerville Loop Road in southern Humboldt County, according to a source who contacted Redheaded Blackbelt.

The source reported observing at least two Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office vehicles at the location, accompanied by a large drone measuring approximately 2.5 feet in diameter. Additional law enforcement vehicles were spotted along the Avenue of the Giants and were later reported to be connected to the same operation at the Elk Creek Road location.

Adding to the scale of the response, CHP Helicopter 14 was observed circling overhead in the area.

The nature of the operation has not been disclosed. Redheaded Blackbelt reached out to the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office for comment but had not received a response at the time of publication.

It remains unclear which agencies, if any, alongside the Sheriff’s Office, were involved in the operation. Further details will be provided as information becomes available.

Update 12 p.m.: Redheaded Blackbelt has confirmed with HCSO’s Lt. Jesse Taylor that some HCSO deputies are assisting on a CHP led operation. The local CHP office in Garberville indicated this is a CHP Investigative Services Unit (ISU) led operation.

The CHP Investigative Services Unit is a specialized team that handles complex criminal investigations and task-force cases rather than routine patrol duties. These investigations can include organized auto theft, fraud cases, officer-involved incidents, and other major crimes often coordinated with state, local, or federal agencies. Redheaded Blackbelt has requested information from the ISU’s public information officer who is currently out of office according to ISU staff.

Thank you, Lisa — I was wondering why CHP14 was circling above.

“observing at least two Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office vehicles”.

Why do I find that so hard to believe? Why would anything like that be printed? Maybe we should increase the Sheriff’s budget, so he could put a couple of deputies in those vehicles. We could use 400 sheriff deputies.

Or, maybe every county in California sent some vehicles?

Find what hard to believe? I live nearby saw the helicopter for hours circling. Neighbors who live closer to the property saw the police cars show up. So hum is a small area not enough deputies to support

Ernie, the article says “two,” not “two hundred.” No gratuitous insults required.

Boy am I stupid!!! Apologies all around…Reading comprehension is indeed an acquired skill. I just knew something was wrong. I have been over tired lately.

I have asshole tendencies when I get too tired.

I think we’re all frazzled and have had enough gloom and doom and awful weather. Spring is just a moment away. You are not alone. My brain does odd things daily getting older.

“check before opening my mouth”

Good advice!

I am usually wise enough to stay off ‘High Horses’, it is so damn far to the ground when you get tossed off.

Too tired!

Yes…I (mis-)read Ernie’s comment first. The part about 400 deputies served to reinforce the misreading so when I looked at the article I saw two hundred again.

Who knows? Maybe Robot is correct — maybe I’m not human. 🙂 Feels that way a lot lately…

My niece lives in that area and she counted 16 law enforcement vehicles and two tow trucks when she came home from work.

Hopefully they are finally doing something about Mat Wilson, that crew has been stealing from the locals for years now. Burglarizing property’s stealing vehicles and anything else they can get their hands on. Law enforcement has been well aware for a long time but the investigations drag on forever.

Yeah from what I can gather about the location it seems like its right around that area anyways. Its too bad he turned out the way he did his grandfather was a good man and I know Matt’s grandmother as well. Real nice real kick back and at times really funny woman too. If you find out more let me know. If it is them o er there I wonder what they could have gotten themselves into, I mean they get into some trouble but to this extent??? I don’t think theyre even in probation or anything which led me to think they’ve been being cool and staying out of trouble. That friend of theirs though is a bad seed Dennis Hicks. No good. I would not be surprised if he brought all this trouble on them he causes pro lens everywhere he is. And nobody wants to see him around their community thats for sure. Another kid who’s mom was just the sweetest lady. She worked at rays for years.
