Woman Arrested for Attempted Murder Last Week Allegedly Intentionally Struck a Bicyclist in Eureka and Then Backed Up and Hit the Bike Again

The January 9, 2026 arrest of Ericka Marie Rosas by the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office stemmed from a warrant issued in connection with a Eureka Police Department investigation into a violent incident that occurred nearly a year earlier on Broadway in Eureka.

According to Lt. LaFrance of the Eureka Police Department, the original incident took place on January 25, 2025, at approximately 10:28 a.m. in the 2100 block of Broadway. Based on evidence and witness statements, police allege that Rosas was driving the wrong way on the roadway when she accelerated and intentionally struck a bicyclist who was known to her. After the bicyclist fell from the bike, Rosas is alleged to have reversed and run over the bicycle. Investigators have identified the vehicle itself as the weapon involved in the alleged crimes. The extent of the bicyclist’s injuries was described as unknown but appearing to be minor.

The incident was first reported last year as part of what witnesses described as a chaotic chain of events on Broadway. According to eyewitness Jeff Osborne, a white minivan struck a bicyclist near West Hawthorne Street and then backed over the bicycle before speeding north on Broadway. Osborne followed the vehicle, which had sustained major front-end damage.

As the minivan approached the intersection of Broadway and West Wabash Avenue, it allegedly ran a red light and collided with a blue Toyota RAV4 at an estimated speed of about 40 miles per hour. The impact reportedly caused the RAV4 to roll onto its side before righting itself. The driver of the RAV4 was said to have been injured and transported to the hospital. Following the collision, the minivan continued briefly up West Wabash before stopping. Witnesses detained the female driver until officers arrived.

Rosas was arrested nearly a year later after a warrant related to the EPD case was issued and served by HCSO. As with all criminal cases, the charges represent allegations, and Rosas is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

Information gathered from initial reports and ongoing investigations remains subject to change as additional facts become available.

It took a year to come to this decision? Sheesh!

Apparently it’s not as easy as it seems to determine if the reckless use of a vehicle is actually an assault or attempted murder now is it? Perhaps the cyclist was doing something she didn’t approve of?

I think if she backed over the cyclist after hitting him, that would be a clue!

Backed over the bike, not the rider.

It doesn’t sound like the rider being in the way would have stopped her.

Wow, that’s a relief. No wonder it took a year to arrest her. Geez, wow. Took a while for EPD to assemble evidence and track down a suspect. Another Tarantino script ripped from the headlines. I am sorry for the deceased victim, friends and family.

“I am sorry for the deceased victim….”

Reports of the bike riders demise have been greatly exaggerated — not for lack of effort by the perpetrator but bc of failure to successfully complete the action — thus resulting in the charge of attempted murder.

The ICE thug in Minnesota took 1.4 seconds to impose the DEATH PENALTY

Not a fair comparison since the “ICE thug” in MN was a trained federal professional while the local suspect was an avid amateur.

When one of the ICE thug “trained federal professionals” slipped on an icy sidewalk, his AR went off (shown on video). Proving he was NOT trained, because no trained person would carry a fully automatic assault rifle loaded, cocked, safety off, finger on trigger. [edit]

I am a robot must be paid for dragging a totally unrelated incident into a local matter. Or, robot has nothing to do with his/her/its day…

Intent, or further crime commission I suppose, as far as a felony or not.

I agree that’s an absurdly long time. Does the “speedy trial” part mean that it will take less than a year for sentencing?

Gee when ever you get around to it. Why are the police taking so long to arrest? Did she not get arrested that day? WTF epd. Did the failed Eureka city council make roadrage legle?

Even so, the police should have arrested her at the scene.

Point taken, he said through gritted teeth. Can’t believe it myself?! Not going to touch the city council comment or “roadrage legle” in the interest of comity and world peace. Happy New Year, I hope.

This item has a few holes…

Why did the perp hit the bike?

Why did the EPD not arrest her?

Was she just mad at the kid?

How intoxicated was the driver of this vehicle at the time…

Did any policeman even interact with the perp at the time of the two assaults?

Everyone who works for the EPD and all of the City Council needs to be fired…

The wheels of justice grind exceedingly slow… And sometimes in Humboldt they grind to a stop.

Other times they accelerate during random mood swings of officers and go off the rails entirely. Injustices occurring during interaction with EPD rarely make it to the news or to court unless someone dies, is injured severely and physically, AND there is proof AND they can afford and know a lawyer ( likely outside of the County) willing to take the case. Inside the County everyone is so interdependent, actually dependent on one another for income, even those or maybe especially those in middle and upper middle class with more to lose and less integrity/willingness to take risks for justice. Chances of a local lawyer taking the case are close to nil. Chances are higher that local lawyer, once approached by a potential client and thereby aware of the case will take a kickback from the offending agency ; paid to not take the client’s case.

You say valid things then throw in an extreme at the end like blowing up a playing field or pushing the game board off the table; a waste of some good points.

To you, they’re “good points” of discussion. To others, it’s just more conjecture. PoM had things that could actually be answered, such as why not arrest on the scene and evidence of intoxication. Those can be answered on the spot. If a local lawyer will take the case is no better than grass tossed into the wind and guessing where it lands.

Best thing to do is:

If you don’t like somebody’s comments, don’t read them!

Considering that property was destroyed, and somebody may have been injured, a year ago, I would conclude that either the mayhem was not reported at the time, or, it took a year for the EPD to get around to it…

I used to not read a few people’s comments, like “Bridge Troll’s” and Central Humco’s, but I only comment about things I understand, like the negligent, incompetent and corrupt government bodies in Humboldt…

Negligence, incompetence and corruption are deeply embedded in your area, but the whole place is full of some interesting characters, like Mrs Bushnell and Mr Bohn, and some complete idiots, like Natalie Arroyo and the Eureka City Council…

I refer to Scott Adams, recently deceased, who made good money teasing the tech industry but then got racist and right-wing right there in his comics…

Now, there’s no Scott Adams, and Dilbert is only a memory…

Probably, Humboldt will just be a memory as well…

Intoxication is no excuse. Neither is “being mad”. Neither is “I didn’t see them”.

This culture is so accustomed to making excuses for drivers when they hit people, that it takes a whole damn year to “make sure” they did it intentionally vs. carelessly.

I suspect that the identity of the victim was unknown? Maybe they where in the street game and refused to snitch and just ran off or had warrants and or where carrying contraband on probation? Lots of reasons. Witnesses called it in the car was pulled over but perhaps no victim was found until later when they got caught for something and gave this up?

Maybe they had to do a lot of research to see if she had any connections to a prominent Humboldt county family, which would have warranted not pressing charges for a slam dunk crime.

If you click on the related article linked at the bottom, you’ll find the bicyclist left and was unable to be found at the time. With no victim, it’s hard to charge.

It can be proven with the last 40 years of records that for middle and lower class income people it is the exception that they will have fair and just outcomes from interactions with law enforcement and the legal system and that it would be foolish for persons from these 2 classes alone to expect otherwise . For the life of me i can not understand how that is allowed to be as that is like saying that roughly 75 percent of the citizens of this country should not expect equal fair or just outcomes dealing with the legal system. This was the result of a AI search where it was asked to include such items as officer discretion da discretion , and supreme court picking which cases they are willing to hear along with access to equitable legal counsel and public defenders offices chronically underfunding and understaffing problems
