Coroner Determines Woman Found on Benbow Drive Died of Natural Causes
The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the woman found deceased along Benbow Drive near Fish Creek Road last month died of natural causes.
The woman, identified as Humboldt County resident Cheryl Cacopardo, was found on the morning of Saturday, October 18, next to her bicycle. At the time, the scene led law enforcement and bystanders to suspect a possible hit-and-run. Several California Highway Patrol vehicles and a Park Ranger responded, and detectives from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit were called to assist with the investigation.
Lieutenant Jesse Taylor of the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office said at the time that the circumstances were unclear but emphasized that there was no indication of danger to the public.
Following a full coroner’s investigation, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office announced this week that Cacopardo died of natural causes during her routine morning bicycle ride. The coroner found no signs of trauma or evidence of a vehicle collision.
Sergeant Brandon Head of the Sheriff’s Office stated that “no concerns for public safety were identified as part of the investigation.”
Our condolences go out to the friends and family of the decedent.

See you on the other side.
That is sad. She was obviously doing what she enjoyed when she died. I hope to be so lucky someday…just not today.
Passing away while doing something you like I guess is a good way to go. My condolences to her family and friends. May she RIP.
Ride In Peace. Yes.
So sorry to hear of our communities loss, condolences to the family she was a delight to be around. I always enjoyed her company. Cheryl shared many gardening tips with me. I never forget her little cucamelons she shared with me from her garden.
