Natalie Arroyo, currently serving as Humboldt County’s elected Fourth District Supervisor, has officially launched her 2026 campaign to continue representing Eureka, Myrtletown, and the Samoa Peninsula communities of Samoa, Finntown, and Fairhaven. She announced her candidacy on Saturday, November 8th at Madaket Plaza in Eureka overlooking Humboldt Bay, surrounded by a crowd of supporters and community partners. The primary election will take place on June 2, 2026.

Longtime Finntown resident, Peninsula Community Services District Board President, and maritime industry expert Leroy Zerlang welcomed the crowd, sharing stories about Madaket Plaza and his many years working closely with Natalie to improve the Samoa Peninsula. Captain Zerlang was followed by local engineer Sheri Woo, who serves on the Humboldt Bay Municipal Water District Board of Directors and frequently engages with Supervisor Arroyo on matters related to everything from energy services to community celebrations. Sheri warmly introduced Natalie Arroyo through many anecdotes of their time together.

Natalie shared several examples of recent positive accomplishments and her passion for serving the community at the local government level, especially in this moment. She thanked the many fellow community leaders present for their collaboration and care in serving Humboldt County. The announcement was followed by a reception just steps away at Phatsy Kline’s Parlor Lounge inside the Historic Eagle House, featuring the lovely music of local duo Ponies of Harmony.

Natalie is thrilled to be bringing her breadth of experience and heartfelt enthusiasm to this role once more. A longtime Eureka resident, Natalie has previously served as a Eureka City Councilmember, watershed restoration specialist, trail planner, college educator, and a proud veteran. Natalie’s message for voters in her district is: “Simply put, I love Humboldt County and am honored to serve as your representative in District 4. These are challenging and dynamic times, and I bring experience, relationships, and knowledge you can count on. Thank you for the opportunity and I hope to earn your vote for a second term!” Natalie has already been endorsed by Congressman Jared Huffman, Senator Mike McGuire, and Assemblymember Chris Rogers, with more endorsement announcements soon to come. I would picture the police as the three blind mice. I picture the supervisors as the rats of nimh honestly though arroyo doesnt seem like a bad choice..

I’ve known her casually, and found her to be kind, energetic, smart, and massively competent. If I had to live in Eureka, I’d want to be in her district.

I’ve lived in Eureka in her district when she was on council. Cop hating person that she is, advocate for keeping drug addicts addicted through “harm reduction” that doesn’t require any type of prod to stop using, advocate for the homeless being allowed to be anywhere and do anything they want while punishing anyone with any type of income, catering to the FEELINGS of EVERY marginalized group and punishing business owners for daring to have any small success. She is exactly what any government body does not need. She thinks she’s enlightened…which is bad. Her passive aggressive statements and vote against doing anything about homelessness shows she is overwhelmed by experiences of the past with family being homeless and she won’t let go of her biased feelings about anything that might have made them uncomfortable and actually HELPED HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE. She is extremely liberal, extremely loud, and extremely bad for the county.

With endorsements like hers, who in their right mind would vote for this airhead? She failed at ECC and has failed at BOS. What more could you ask for? She’s a prime example of why Eureka is a failing city and why Humboldt is following them right down the toilet drain.

The reason for the City-Failure-Syndrome is the voters who elect odd people to office…

Has Wilson ever run opposed?

The Humboldt Board of Supervisors has sold you out, lined their own pockets (and their friend’s) for at least the last 10 years, and they probably always have…

You can’t have an evolving County if nothing ever changes…

I seem to remember Natalie “failed” at ECC for several terms. People disliked her so much they just kept re-electing her.

I don’t live in Eureka, thank God. I don’t have any use for most Eurekans as they keep voting in the same stupid people. I guess stupid votes as stupid is. I think about the same when it comes to the county. I live here because of the natural beauty only, not for the people, most of whom I have no use for as they have proven I’m generally better off without them.

I have never had such an outlook that fixated so much on using people. What is that existence like? I bet it’s got it’s benefits.

Okay, second thought here, maybe I can see what you mean with that.

You are clearly misguided. If you count my posts, generally my own point, but an occasional reply to another post you will find my presence here is minimal, unlike many who post volumes on almost every article. Maybe my posts are noticeable because I generally point out the horrors of far left lunacy or corruption of “public” officials. Mostly they have a purpose of, hopefully, causing others to think versus just swallowing everything from these two listed sources without question.

Stop acting like Eureka just started going down the drain, my family was forced to leave 25 years ago because of the drug addiction and spiraling economy with no work that has only continued. You’re not going to act as if there has not been fraudulent in the county government for over a decade.

Natalie Arroyo is completely unqualified in any way.

She lacks education, experience and intelligence necessary for this role.

Her performance is lackluster, and, in her own way, she is just as bad as Rex, Michelle and Mike…

What a clown-car on the Humboldt Board…

Don’t re-elect any of these idiots…

Don’t re-elect her to the job again. She lacks experience.
I’m glad you are running. Maybe it’s ok she beat you to the announcement. Once you announce your campaign challenging her, everyone will forget she running!

She‘s doing an almost perfect job except that, as is the case with all other supervisors, she isn’t out there hustling for Humboldt, going to look for investors, job providers to come to Humboldt ! We need a BOS that is getting off their asses to find the new industries and job creators and bring them to Humboldt…

IMHO:

As far as sustainable manufacturing… there really is NOTHING here.

No good ground based transportation in or out of the area.
Minimal Dairy/Agricultural resources.
Marine resources (fisheries) are gone. (PMFC)
Few lumber mills in the area. (They are probably operating on a ‘sustained’ basis.)

Dope farms are gone.
Legalization resulted in a lot of ‘other’ more suitable areas to grow dope, which resulted in a lot more dope on the market… and the prices collapsed.

Then there are a few odd or specialized manufacturers left.

For a young person… either a get ‘government’ job or be looking for a ‘way out’.

I have not followed Natalie’s record but I have believed she is a progressive. After the vote last week for the ‘compassionate’ approached to ‘homeless’ people, where she was the only one to oppose it, I am curious about her perspective, and why she might have voted that way.

She’s progressive. She had family in Devils Playground. Don’t want to upset people you personally know.

Over a hundred people were housed when the marsh was cleared. Many took transportation assistance to go back to family. Many lives were vastly improved when that marsh was cleared. They were made uncomfortable at the prospect of change. We don’t want anyone uncomfortable! We don’t want them scared when they can be dry and have plumbing!

At best she is misguided. Mostly she is blinded by her own biases and prejudices, arrogant in her belief she knows best, and dangerous to everyone she leaves out there to suffer.

She represents the world view of most of the voters in her district. A more positive force for attracting younger residents and business investment has not come forward.

The Department of Labor is responsible for creating jobs in that area; however, it is ultimately up to local city and state governments to foster an environment that attracts people. Unfortunately, the government there fails to do this.

The sheriff’s department and higher authorities do little more than repeatedly arrest the same individuals, extract information from them to apprehend others, and then release those individuals back into the community.

This cycle of crime has persisted for nearly 30 years, involving the same people, and now their children and grandchildren are following in their footsteps. I have witnessed this firsthand and have seen countless lives lost.

If adequate resources were provided to address addiction issues, education, and employment, as you mentioned, people would not be desperately seeking a way out or fighting to survive.

This raises the question of funding: who controls the money, and how is it distributed? It would be worthwhile to examine the city budgets and identify who is responsible for them, as that person is likely misallocating funds and failing to provide the community with what it needs.

The community is suffering profoundly from addiction, and the sheriff’s department does nothing to combat this. In fact, they contribute to the vicious cycle, perpetuating the problem.

To continually arrest individuals to extract information for the purpose of identifying their dealers is deeply troubling. These individuals are struggling with mental health issues and require mental health resources; instead, budgets are allocated for further militarization.
