[Update: Good News] Authorities Searching for Missing Individual Near Eagle Prairie Creek Bridge

Around noon today, Tuesday, July 22, law enforcement and emergency personnel responded to the south end of the Eagle Prairie Creek Bridge in Rio Dell after receiving reports of a developmentally disabled adult who had walked away from a care facility.

According to scanner traffic, the individual was last seen carrying a red milk crate and heading northbound on the river side of the bridge. The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office and Rio Dell Police Department began a preliminary search of the area, while medical personnel staged nearby in case assistance was needed.

Rio Dell Fire and other local agencies are also assisting in the effort to locate the individual.

This is a developing situation. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

Update 1:10 p.m.: Law enforcement and search crews are searching the river bar using a side-by-side utility vehicle and have deployed a drone to aid in locating the missing man. A second drone has been requested after a searcher spotted a single fresh set of footprints near the railroad tracks.

Update 2:05 p.m.: Additional ground resources, including hand crews from CAL Fire, have been requested to aid in the search.
