[Update] Semi Vs. Vehicle Collision on SR-36 Near River Bar Road

According to information from the California Highway Patrol Traffic Incident Information Page, a white Ford Escape reportedly attempted a U-turn in the roadway when it was struck by an oncoming semi-truck. The semi may have also collided with up to two other vehicles during the incident.
Injuries were unknown at the time of the report, and at least one vehicle was left disabled in the roadway. Fortuna Police Department was notified and responding to the scene.
Drivers should use caution in the area as emergency crews work to clear the roadway.
Please note that information gathered from early reports is subject to change as more details become available.
Update 12:20 p.m.: According to scanner traffic, the semi is blocking the westbound lane of Highway 36.
Update 12:30 p.m.: A second ambulance has been requested.
Update 12:45 p.m.: UPDATE 12:26 p.m.: Emergency crews completed the extrication of an individual from one of the vehicles involved. A Ford Fiesta with major damage to the left side and front end was prepared for tow. The unloaded log truck has been moved off the roadway, and traffic control is in place as the scene is being cleared. Motorists are advised to continue using caution in the area.
Update 2:11 p.m.: CHP is now listing this as a major injury collision.

I guess that the Ford Escape driver should have looked better before trying to turn around in the road with a semi ready to eat him. He is lucky to be alive.
Agreed. I’ll just add that the semi driver must have taken heroic action to avoid serious injury to the Fiesta driver.

Semi trucks always drive way too f*ckin fast down there. People in SEMIS need to be more careful actually. Since they’re on the road all the time, and they know the roads better than most. Since you wanna pull that card. How about wish or pray that the victim that was hurt is okay. 🥴 just a thought.

Ham, I was wondering how your husband is holding up after that accident. I know that he meant no harm to the car driver, but it is very hard to shake things like that off. They just keep eating at you. I wish him the very best!
For the first few days my husband was an absolute wreck. He came home crying from seeing the condition of the girls, and having to watch first responders help them. He was the first one to call 911 and start helping them (as he was in the police academy, so he’s a bit trained on how to respond). He felt guilty and sad for a few weeks. He also took a few days off work due to what happened. I kept reminding him that it was an accident and it wasn’t his fault and he did what he could. But he couldn’t stop crying every day, He did want to reach out to the family to see how they were holding up, but I and his bosses are stressed about possibly facing a lawsuit (although it would be on my husbands company) it still stresses us out. And even though my husband is 100% not at fault, we’re worried about the possibility of his job being affected and right now we can’t afford for him to loose his job…we are a small family, I stay at home with our baby, and we just got pre approved to buy a home. And if he looses his job it’s over for us.
I also want to say I absolutely was not laughing at the girls. I was laughing at my own joke because “source: trust me bro” is a meme and because this is anonymous I thought maybe people wouldn’t believe that I’m actually the drivers wife, so I was making a joke.
We absolutely 100% feel terrible about the girls and we do care about there recovery. We’ve donated money to them, we bought the chicken buckets they sold. We bought 2 of the family buckets. We just want to stay anonymous and not be involved for the moment

I have seen ‘Bad U-Turns’ multiple times before.
Often the U-Turn driver is lost, they missed a turn, forgot something… their mind is focused on that problem… and not focused on the immediate need to drive safely.
They weren’t making a U-turn. They were turning left.

I don’t think drugs were the problem. Sometimes we all make mistakes, but this one sent her to a Oakland hospital in critical condition. I have driven through red lights and stop signs in the town where I live. Stupid I agree, but it happened and I’m not proud of it. I could have injured or killed someone.
