Huffman Statement on House Passage of ‘Trump’s Big, Ugly Bill’

Press release from the North Coast Congressman Jared Huffman:

“Republicans just rammed through one of the most shameless betrayals in recent memory: Trump’s Big, Ugly Bill is a full-blown catastrophe for the American people. President Trump promised affordability, and now Americans will pay higher energy bills. Republicans campaigned on energy independence, but they’re giving China the deal of the century. They promised a stronger economy, yet they just kneecapped hundreds of thousands of good-paying jobs. They promised to protect our public lands, and now they’ve auctioned our resources off to polluters and developers,” Rep. Huffman said.

“This unconscionable legislation is what it looks like when a government turns its back on the people it vowed to serve. Millions of Americans will have their health care and food assistance taken away. And what’s worse? Republicans are proud of this bill. They’re celebrating a scheme that steals from working families to bankroll billionaire tax breaks and handouts to fossil fuel CEOs,” Huffman said. “Once again, Republicans and President Trump have made their priorities painfully clear: when forced to choose between Americans and their billionaire donors, they’ll betray us and sell us out every time.”

Although Republicans refused to consider any Democratic amendments to improve their partisan sweetheart deal, Rep. Huffman filed the following amendments to protect working families, safeguard our public lands, and prevent school voucher schemes:

  • Representative Huffman’s amendment #198 would require foreign adversaries, including state-owned companies, pay royalties to mine on U.S. public lands.
  • Representative Huffman’s amendment #215 would only allow coal mining provisions to take effect if federal officials confirm coal is cost-competitive with renewable energy.
  • Representative Huffman’s amendment #224 would remove royalty rate cuts for oil and gas drilling on land and offshore.
  • Representative Huffman’s amendment #230 would strike Arctic Refuge oil and gas leasing provisions and replace them with the Arctic Refuge Protection Act.
  • Representative Huffman’s amendment #244 would strike funding rescission for the National Park Service and Bureau of Land Management.
  • Representative Huffman’s amendment #266 would limit increased logging until mature and old-growth forests on federal lands are conserved and protections are expanded.
  • Representative Huffman’s amendment #459 would ensure the Bureau of Reclamation does not violate or override state law.
  • Representative Huffman’s amendment #480 would strike Sec. 70411, which provides a tax credit for wealthy donors to contribute to private and religious school voucher programs.

In California’s Second Congressional District, this bill:

  • Increases average premiums by $3,070 per year for the 41,000 people who receive coverage under the Affordable Care Act
  • Puts 231,738 people who depend on Medicaid at risk of losing their health care
  • Threatens 28,369 households who count on SNAP to put food on the table
  • Takes away 5,130 jobs in clean energy and manufacturing

I love to see these liberals kicking and screaming like this. So nice to sip coffee and watch them.

The other day I watched my friends toddler flip out and have a temper tantrum and it reminded me of these people. They’re adult toddlers, all of them.

Additionally, did anybody notice that all of his amendments do nothing more than draw money into the state through taxation and theft by means of fines? It’s like all he wants is money. Every single one of those amendments pulls money from some place but it does nothing to fix the problems that he claims are there.

Typical of these types.

Um, foreign adversaries (emhasis mine), so if they are friends they don’t need to pay? Why would you let an adversary own a mine in our country?

Cuts $4.5 trillion in total tax reductions; adds $3.4 trillion to the national debt. Those paying the highest taxes get the largest reductions; guess who pays for the national debt? The Big Beautiful Bill will be presented to The American People, payable on receipt.

Excessive spending is in the bill. It frontloads spending while cuts are supposed to take effect at “some point in the future.” If you have paid attention to our government, the cuts never actually happen. The expiration of the Trump tax cuts were held over the heads of everyone like a sword of damacoles. Rather than codifying the cuts in a separate bill, like should have been done, they were contingent on the passing of a bill filled with pork.

One could also argue that the $90,000,000 earmarked for Israel is war funding built into the bill. We have millions of homeless people in this country, and hundreds of thousands dying each year from drug overdoses and yet this bill sends tons of money overseas instead of keeping it here to take care of vets, homeless, and the drug problem.

I could be a snarky ass like you though and say that wars are written into page 763, section 5, paragraph 2. A statement which you wouldn’t be able to verify considering none of us have access to the full text of the bill and people like you wouldn’t read it if they did. Trump hasn’t stopped a single war. The only ones stopped are the ones that were lost, like against the Houthis in Yemen, where Trump negotiated a ceasefire only after our carriers started dumping 80 million dollar aircraft overboard while trying to avoid ballistic missile fire, or with Iran only after Iran Gaza’d Tel Aviv with hypersonic missiles and while Israel was running out of interceptors and we fired off a fifth of our total stock of THAAD interceptors in 12 days defending a country that does nothing for us. I voted for Trump 3 times, and although I concede that he is much better than Kamala, I have been less than impressed with his performance as president. Of course my expectations are high given I am more of a Rand Paul/Thomas Massie sort of guy.

Upvote not working. All this righteous arrogance from folks who support Donald Trump, the worst American president ever, who called in an assault on our Capitol over his lie about a stolen election. Who has 30,000 confirmed lies just from his first term (TIME, 7-7-2025, p.23) and is working to beat that record. What’s in it for Republicans? Destruction of American Democracy? Honorary Russian citizenship? Free tickets to The Bolshoi Ballet? You don’t see hordes of people crashing the Russian border. Turn America into a hellhole and nobody will bother us?
Trouble is, we still will have to live here. Start composing your apology letter to your descendants for what you are doing to them. Here’s a fund-raising idea. Sell T-shirts to Trump dead-enders. For a donation you can get your special shirt: THIS SHIRT DE-FUNDS RURAL HOSPITALS, THIS SHIRT COSTS LIVES, THIS SHIRT AIDS SUFFERING BILLIONAIRES. THIS SHIRT ABANDONS UKRAINE. THIS SHIRT EXPANDS THE DEFICIT. Come up with your own screw-America slogan. Have fun, while you can.

Um, Huffman just gave away a thousand or so acres(of forest circus land)on the northwest county line of humboldt to the Karuk tribe, a completely separate and sovereign nation that answers to nobody but it’s own members and or the feds.
while I may not trust trump with public land, Huffman in no position to clamor about giving away the spoils of war.

The lack of humanity, in the comments from many readers, below, is alarming.

People actually revelling in the prospect of other people suffering.

Mind blowing.

I’m surprised that those hateful comments were allowed to be published.

So many, like me, will lose their healthcare. Many will suffer and die from a lack of healthcare.

I hope Lisa and Kym will investigate further and let us know how Medicaid and Partnership will be affected.

This is catastrophic.

This bill was so complex I had mixed feelings about it, especially the spending. But seeing this “Blank Page” groomed professional whining about it tells me now that being in favor of it was the right choice. Huffman has no qualifications to comment on anything, he has done nothing in his life but kiss ass and conform. Did he even vote on this or did he stay home and pout like he did on Trump’s first inauguration?

Yes- This is what it looks like when the Democratic Party throws us all under the bus. They lied and insisted President Biden was fine- even holding no primary debates because they wanted to hide his cognitive decline. The leaders of the Democratic Party wanted to push up on us a mentally deficient candidate. When that became impossible to hide anymore they anointed an extremely unqualified candidate who could not even speak plain English. Of course she was defeated. And Trump was elected. THAT is why this is happening! And Huffman went right along with them. How can anybody trust a single word coming out of this liar’s mouth? HE is the problem. HE and the rest of those crappy DEMs who truly screwed us all over. And now they tell US that they are trying to save us?!!

Yeah it’s weird. I’m not a suoer-fan of Trump. I can understand some reasonable criticism of his actions and policies, even share some of those. It’s reasonable to not agree fully with everything that any President does! But the extreme hype-and-scare tactics that the DEMs have decided on as their strategy is shameful and dangerous to our country. It only drives me farther away from them…They need some reasonable leaders! They cannot debate, they cannot come up with any intelligent alternatives…they just throw fear and stoke hate and divide us all further when we need to think and argue intelligently. Where are their leaders?! Hidden behind curtains….

This is probably the best answer l’ve ever heard to the question, “Why did God create evil?”
READ THIS…
Why did God create evil? The answer struck me to the core of my soul!
A professor at the university asked his students the following question:

  • Everything that exists was created by God?
  • One student bravely answered:
  • Yes, created by God.
  • Did God create everything? – a professor asked.
  • “Yes, sir,” replied the student.

The professor asked :

  • If God created everything, then God created evil, since it exists. And according to the principle that our deeds define ourselves, then God is evil.

The student became silent after hearing such an answer. The professor was very pleased with himself. He boasted to students for proving once again that faith in God is a myth.
Another student raised his hand and said:

  • Can I ask you a question, professor?
  • “Of course,” replied the professor.
  • A student got up and asked:
  • Professor, is cold a thing?
  • What kind of question? Of course it exists. Have you ever been cold?
  • Students laughed at the young man’s question. The young man answered:
  • Actually, sir, cold doesn’t exist.
  • According to the laws of physics, what we consider cold is actually the absence of heat. A person or object can be studied on whether it has or transmits energy.
  • Absolute zero (-460 degrees
  • Fahrenheit) is a complete absence of heat. All matter becomes inert and unable to react at this temperature.

Cold does not exist. We created this word to describe what we feel in the absence of heat.
A student continued:

  • Professor, does darkness exist?
  • — Of course it exists.
  • You’re wrong again, sir. Darkness also does not exist. Darkness is actually the absence of light. We can study the light but not the darkness.
  • We can use Newton’s prism to spread white light across multiple colors and explore the different wavelengths of each color. You can’t measure darkness. A simple ray of light can break into the world of darkness and and illuminate it. How can you tell how dark a certain space is? You measure how much light is presented. Isn’t it so? Darkness is a term man uses to describe what happens in the absence of light.

In the end, the young man asked the professor:

  • Sir. does evil exist?
  • This time it was uncertain, the professor answered:
  • Of course, as I said before. We see him every day. Cruelty, numerous crimes and violence throughout the world. These examples are nothing but a manifestation of evil.

To this, the student answered:

  • Evil does not exist, sir, or at least it does not exist for itself. Evil is simply the absence of God. It is like darkness and cold—a man-made word to describe the absence of God. God did not create evil. Evil is not faith or love, which exist as light and warmth. Evil is the result of the absence of Divine love in the human heart. It’s the kind of cold that comes when there is no heat, or the kind of darkness that comes when there’s no light.

The student’s name was Albert Einstein.

….and you of course, Jared Huffman, in all your imagined importance have gone to work fixing all the faults with a bill of your own, right….didn’t think so. You come from the losers bracket although you cannot lose in our county. However, I would like to remind those Humboldt folks who have not lived her for at least 40 years (because you just moved here for the Pot), we once had useful Democrats and Republicans i.e. Mike Thompson and Don Clausen who actually did things for our county and who knew who we were if they saw us on the street.

Wake us up when you actually have solutions to all of the winning Trump has been doing in his first six months in office. It takes more than word salad and denouncements of Trump’s policies before the ink has even dried to make a competent congressman. You come here occasionally to have a grandstand appearance but know nothing of who we are, and the problems we have here with our economy. Clausen and Thompson, two former congressmen knew who we were when they saw us on the street and called out our names. They also helped the economy with unique ideas and doing a little hobnobbing with their peers to get the votes.

Well enough…I had a steroid shot yesterday and could sit up all night typing my disappointment in you and the democrats in general. You keep using the same old play book but no one is buying it. I do not want our country to become a one party machine. It’s not healthy, but you democrats are simply not helping your cause. Take a month off the ranting and grandstanding and meet to see if you can come up with a leader and a purpose and a real desire to work with the other side of the aisle. If you had done that in the first place, you might not be so dissatisfied with the BBB. AND, don’t use the excuse, you weren’t asked. Mr. Mike Johnson seems a very affable fellow. I am sure if any of you had a scintilla of an idea you could have floated it past him IF you really were “for the American People”.

That was a laugh from Jeffries ridiculous attempt to filibuster so the bill couldn’t be signed on July 4th. If you had actually been for the American people, you might have won the presidency. Problem was, Donald Trump was for the American people and talked about the issues facing us. You all just sat in your comfy homes sipping mai tais with your undocumented servants and gave us word salad signifying nothing. He outsmarted you and still is doing it every.single.day. PERIOD.
