Huffman Says He’s Leading the Fight Against Most Extreme Anti-Environment Bill in American History

Press release from the Office of Representative Jared Huffman:
On Tuesday, Ranking Member Jared Huffman led House Natural Resources Committee Democrats to reject House Republicans’ scorched-earth plan in the Committee’s portion of the Republican reconciliation package. Their bill will sell off our lands, waters, and wildlife to fund tax cuts for billionaires and promote their extreme partisan agenda. While House Republicans remained silent at the markup, Huffman, alongside his Democratic colleagues, presented a unified front to protect our communities, the American taxpayer, and our most cherished places.
“Republicans just rammed the most extreme, anti-environment legislation in American history through the Natural Resources Committee. It’s a billionaires-first, Americans-last giveaway to benefit Big Oil and polluters,” said Ranking Member Huffman. “It guts clean air and water protections, slashes funding for our national parks, and sells off, auctions off, and even allows for giving away our public lands to special interests. For the first time, Americans who simply want their voices heard on Big Oil projects on federal land will be slapped with fees for daring to protest. House Republicans not only voted in lock-step for this cartoonishly extreme bill, they refused to participate in any public debate or discussion about it. I’m sure they had plenty of discussion with their corporate polluter puppet masters, but in the only public hearing before this bill goes to the House Floor, they refused to even discuss it. The American people deserve better policy and process than what they’re getting from this GOP Congress. I’m proud that Democrats showed up and fully engaged in debating and challenging this terrible bill. We fought back. And we’ll keep fighting for Americans’ basic freedoms, which include clean air, safe water, healthy communities, and a livable planet for future generations.”
Ranking Member Huffman addresses Republicans’ betrayal to our environment and the American people
Republicans had the opportunity to support common sense safeguards and improve the legislation, but they instead rejected multiple Democratic amendments, including:
- Ranking Member Huffman’s amendments (#20 and #35) protecting the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and the Boundary Waters.
- Ranking Member Huffman’s amendment (#247) striking the section creating a “pay-to-play” process for NEPA.
- Ranking Member Huffman’s amendment (#36) striking out all provisions parallel to Project 2025
- Ranking Member Huffman’s amendment (#105) redirecting funds to support international conservation
- Ranking Member Huffman’s amendment (#39) preventing offshore oil and gas leasing in the Gulf of Mexico
- Ranking Member Huffman’s amendment (#102) prohibiting funds from being used to procure seafood originating or processed in countries identified for failure to address illegal, unreported, or unregulated fishing, bycatch of marine wildlife, or shark management.
- Ranking Member Huffman’s amendment (#197) requiring tribal consultation before approving Ambler Road.
- Ranking Member Huffman’s amendment (#106) blocking the bill from go into effect until the Office of Inspector General submits a report on Elon Musk’s conflict of interest.
A full list of amendments offered by Committee Democrats and blocked by Republicans can be found here
Ranking Member Huffman spent the entire reconciliation markup holding Republicans accountable for their anti-environment agenda, proposing alternative legislative action to improve our public lands, and leading debate to address the issues impacting the American people on the ground. The Republicans, on the other hand, stayed quiet during the reconciliation markup – silently promoting extensions of Project 2025 while doing nothing to help the communities that will be impacted by these reckless policies.
House Republicans are squandering Americans’ money, health, and safety to pad polluters’ pockets. Specifically, this bill:
- Instantly boosts big oil and gas company profits by letting them drill and frack at bargain-basement prices while robbing taxpayers blind.
- Puts polluters before people by letting the wealthy companies pay for legal immunity for inadequate environmental reviews and slapping Americans with exorbitant fees to protest oil and gas pollution.
- Slashes funding for critical and popular public services like NOAA’s coastal restoration and resilience efforts and the National Parks workforce, making it harder for Americans to protect their communities from natural hazards and visit our nation’s most scenic and inspiring places.
- Locks up 4 million acres for unprofitable coal mining – more land than the entire state of Connecticut – taking our energy policy back to the 19th century.
- Mandates dirty mining and drilling deals that will create toxic disasters in our nation’s most pristine lands and waters, permanently polluting places like the Boundary Waters and the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
- Crushes clean energy development by jacking up fees for wind and solar while slashing fees for oil and coal.
- Wipes out protections for endangered species, including dooming the planet’s most endangered whale to extinction by waiving all sensible safeguards for offshore oil and gas operations.
- Sells off public lands to pay for handouts to big oil and tax cuts for billionaires – a surprise, late-night amendment paves the way for a fire sale of public lands.

The trump regime and ALL THOSE who voted for them are now selling out America to the highest bidder. And for WHAT REASON????
What could those voters actually have to gain??? ONLY THE RICH WIN!
Please explain your theory of gains for the rich.
You forgot your sarcasm font.
Trump is pushing for a new tax bracket for the ultra wealthy at 39.5%. That’s higher than any tax put forth for the rich in recent memory. Trump’s tariffs are also a tax on the rich. Only the biggest and wealthiest of companies can offshore production and import products, which cuts out the American labor force. The tariffs are essentially a tax on that kind of activity. Gas prices in California are through the roof, and with the closure of 3 refineries over the course of the next few years, gas prices in California are slated to rise 97%, to over $8 a gallon. Newsome is doing nothing. The amount of drilling permits issued has fallen in the last 5 years from 2071 to 87. I want cheap fuel, and as a farmer, I can tell you that you do too. Food will become so insanely expensive that I can assure you, the obesity issue in California will disappear because you won’t be able to afford to buy a head of lettuce, much less a chicken breast.
Even the most basic understanding of the history of tariffs reveals that tariffs disproportionately affect those with lower incomes. This is the exact reason that the IRS was established and the federal government switch to being funded by progressive rate income tax rather than tariffs.
Like I said, tariffs are a tax on the rich, that’s what has always been screamed about and desired by a large number of constituents. Are you admitting that the corporations just pass the taxes and fees on to the consumers? That’s what I and many others have been trying to tell you for years. Also, you have a choice in the matter, you don’t have to buy the product that they are selling, use your power of supply and demand. If people don’t buy something, there is no demand, if it keeps being produced, there is over supply; prices will come down. All you need is a little backbone and be willing to sacrifice your comfort a bit, sort of like what you ask of me by desiring policies that make gas unaffordable.
Wait, ‘willing to sacrifice’? What happen to the “Golden Age” I was promised?
Like I said, tariffs disproportionately affect the working class and poor. They are not a tax on the rich.
The wealthy who own these corporations do pass on the tariffs to the consumer, yes I “admit that”. No idea why you think that is an admission.
Due to the US failing to enforce laws against monopolies consumers are left with very little choices when attempting to exercise the power of consumer demand.
The ridiculously basic notion of economics that you are espousing is hardly applicable to today’s economy.
I haven’t asked anything of you.
Tariffs are generally not considered a good funding device at all since their effect meant to limit the amount of goods being subject to them from being sold here and thus the point is to reduce the money derived by them. Especially that is clear in this case. They are meant to influence entities not under sway of the US government and are a protective device to keep workers from being at the mercy of foreign governments.
It’s a pretty basic point that a country whose populace can sell the fruits of their labor in foreign markets is going to be better for people with less wealth than a populace who can only buy everything from foreign markets. Lower income results labor having low value too. Not just the cost of goods.
Thank you for saying this. I’m expecting our home values here to also crash as a result of those gas prices and ensuing cost increases. All I have is my home equity so it’s a big concern to see it disappear in a puff of smoke. That’s not Trump- it will be the DEMs doing that….
Your home equity is dramatically inflated unfortunately. If home prices do not fall we have a serious affordability issue.
Not really. Coastal California was great….until gas hits $8/gallon while it is $3.50 everywhere else.
$3.55 per gal at crescent City tribal fuel station. No city tax.
Your perception of Trump’s policies is misunderstood.
Cheaper energy helps everyone. Cheap energy is the lubrication for modern civilization. If you enjoy modern comforts at all, be thankful for cheap energy.
Umm Jared. We like cheap fuel. As your constituent I command you to vote with Trump on theses issues.
Common man, you know you are stretching the truth here.
Hey JarJar, you are embarrassing yourself with this green agenda bullshit. You make us look foolish to the rest of the USA. Just stop it. Vote with the President.
Foolish? California is the trendsetter for the rest of the country when it comes to environmental policies.
Correct. The problem is the rest of the country doesn’t want us to be
The result is a 20 billion dollar budget shortfall this year, and that’s just the start. Watch how the environment does when then the state goes bankrupt. It ain’t pretty.
I’m expecting the sale of national Forest and maybe even wilderness to Chinese bond holders. That’s what happens when austerity programs are adopted…That what we are looking forward at if we don’t stop it with the DEM policies of Misplaced Compassion….
Yep california is the leader of the us policy to pass laws forcing companies to either price their product so high that they end up closing down or off shoring to third world countries with less regulation and even fewer epa laws and or enforcement then shipping those products into california so that their policy of killing jobs and increasing global pollution repeats itself creating more ways of regulating personal freedoms to the point where we will just be happy to barely afford a roof over out heads for the 12 hours a day we are not at work , yeppers you sure are attempting to ensure a safer planet for future generations , safer for the ruling class that is , your policies do NOTHING for the little guy other than increase the madness ,
You say you want to help the housing problem yet your policies add over 125k per house to be built . Your regulation has stripped people of their property rights and freedoms to do as they please on their own land . I bet if you thought you could get away with it you would have a regulation requiring excessive use tax on any use of more than 5 squares of tp per trip to the bathroom , bet you would say it would go to fund clean water or some other bullshit
What EPA laws? I thought the administration was busy dismantling all that.
The rest of the USA makes us look foolish to the world. We are acting like ignorant greedy fools.
Sadly, it isn’t acting.
We’ve never had cheap fuel. Newsome needs to declare an emergency and issue drilling permits. There are only 87 left, down from over 2000 five years ago. Food is going to become ridiculously expensive. Won’t be able to grow it cheaply, need fuel for the equipment. Won’t be able to import it cheaply, need fuel for the trucks. Even the food stamps won’t help, California is in a big time budget crunch, so no boost to the amount of food stamps people receive is coming from the state. The feds aren’t going to help the people who voted for a self inflicted gunshot wound to the head with a boost to their stamps either. I sell organic lettuce at $0.80-$1 a head locally, wholesale. You can’t find organic lettuce from a store for less than $3 a head, in some places like wild berries it’s $5. Can you imagine what the markup would be if I had to raise my price to $1.25-$1.50 a head? Lettuce would probably be going somewhere in the range of $5-$8 a head locally. Can anyone here honestly afford that? And if lettuce were that much, imagine what imported fruit like bananas and avocados would cost, or how much beef and eggs would cost?
Your forecast for the state budget is becoming a reality. For example, Budget overruns on the high speed rail of 70+ billion dollars is another reality, and the project isn’t even half completed.
The reason that project has dramatically overrun in cost and is not completed is because of unbelievable efforts to obstruct it being constructed on the part of conservatives in in the central valley and beyond.
They have filed endless numbers of lawsuits in order to obstruct the project then turn around and point to delays and cost of runs as evidence of a democratic failure.
Turnabout is fair play. Developers in California have dealt with exactly that kind of obstruction for years. CEQA is a weapon now being used against the environmentalists that produced it.
The South gets the high speed rail, and the north gets a run down Amtrak bus 1 time per week.
The sad truth is that there are many very wealthy and entitled people in Arcata who would pay that. And they will pretend to care but…they don’t really! Hardly anybody I know is still shopping Wildlarries or Co-Op or Eureka Natty because we have been priced away. Yes- more will be. But there is a class system becoming very apparent in Arcata and those well-paid folks and the inheritance and trust-,funders will continue to not even notice price increases…or the suffering people around them. They will say ” Let them eat cake” and such stuff….Yes I see them, I know a bunch of them and I do not like them. They are here.
we will only get cheap fuel if OPEC increases production and drops the cost of a barrel like during Trump 1.0. the US extracted and sold the most amount of oil under US land ever under Biden. the US doesn’t refine US oil. maybe trump can work an oil deal while he is over there working a personal real estate deal for his Biz.
We will only have cheap fuel when Sacramento slashes the Draconian taxes on electricity and fossil fuels.
Gavin’s plan is to run oil companies out of Ca., and have the govt. buy gas from Venezuela with your money. Then turn around and sell it back to you with taxes applied, at whatever price they see fit, eliminating any chance of capitalistic competition that could lower price.
8 dollar gas? No. The goal is 10+.
He’s doing a good job. Chevron left for Texas and Valero is closing another refinery.
Huffman is a political hack.
The worst part about California is you pay double for gas. And the roads are still full of potholes. MY NEW STATE HAS GREAT ROADS. AND CHEAP GAS. SCREW CALIFPORNIA CRAP ROADS CRAP PRICES.
He’s so predictably left wing I don’t need to listen to him. I know what he’s going to say before he says it.
And yet so popular. What a conundrum.
He’s not popular, just the chosen one of the Democratic Central Committee. No one else has nearly enough campaign cash to compete.
I guess thats what Trump meant about unleashing american energy. I’m glad we only have to put up with this bullshit for another 3 yrs 8 months. He’s trying to turn our beautiful country into a hellscape. If you want cheaper gas move out of California. I’m not happy about prices here either, but thats the price we pay to live in the best state in the country
The problem is that California produces 60% of all the food for human consumption in the United States. Food prices across the country track with the fuel prices in California. You are forcing the poorest, most vulnerable people in our country to be subject to food insecurity or forced to be on the government dole. That’s very callous.
And the deportation of agricultural workers helps food pricing how? Fuel is just one cost of food. And do you all think that Climate Change is a hoax? I don’t believe that US oil producers want to see the price go down. They historically have made the most profits when oil prices have been high. High Prices = High Profits = good for the stockholder > bad for the average citizen.
It helps citizen’s income by making their labor worth more as they are not in competition with cheap imported labor.
american citizen’s haven’t wanted to work or worked “these jobs” in over 40 years. the shit this admin is selling is insane. its as if he wants to break america.
That’s not true even if so many liberals are sewing the seeds of discontent with the idea that just being born entitles a person not to do anything they don’t want. Few really want to work at dirty, hard jobs. But they will if they get good wages. What Americans didn’t want is to go back to working for the same wages and benefits that their fathers had fought thirty years ago to improve.
Unlike what I think is true for you, I saw first hand what happened to work in the US. Not that immigrant labor was not always there. But can anyone can think that it is a good thing importing desperate people as a cheap substitute for less desperate people just to make more profit? I just suspect not and it is your intent to humble your fellow Americans.
In the 1970s I saw meat processing plants going on strike because their wages and benefits were being cut. They at the time had good wages. Then while on strike the employers brought bus loads of recent immigrants in, paid them half the wages of the workers they replaced and no benefits other than mandated ones. 30 years later the wages in that industry were about the same. Because the employers could.
Then I saw Maxxam do exactly the same thing only it wasn’t a strike. Just seasonal lay offs. Dairy farms the same. It is an ugly pattern of behavior. Repeated. Last to my knowledge at Disneyland.
https://homepages.se.edu/cvonbergen/files/2020/12/The-Walt-Disney-Company_Employees-Are-Asked-to-Train-Their-Foreign-Replacements.pdf
Oh it doesn’t help food prices. Similarly to how the ending of slavery did not help cotton prices.
Yes if “farmers” are no longer able to take advantage of illegal immigrants and have to increase pay and working conditions so that US citizens will and can work these jobs food prices will increase.
We only have these red hat morons to thank for this orange imbecile with dementia
And the Mr/Mrs C’s
You can’t hide forever, we know you too well
It is absolutely a problem the California produces 60% of the nation’s food. That needs to change because this insane level of agricultural production comes a tremendous cost to the environment of California.
Much of the rest of the United States that used to produce a variety of food products for domestic consumption is now committed to producing soy sorghum alfalfa etc, a majority of which is shipped overseas.
Food needs to be grown locally to whatever extent is possible.
You’ll have plenty of cheaper fuel soon.
Hmm… SF Gate says that $8 dollar a gallon gas is coming !
Better order those Teslas ! That’s what Newsom and CARB want !
—
Get The Facts: Could California see gas prices increase to $8 a gallon?
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California may be on the verge of a gas price crisis, with experts warning that soaring costs could occur if the state’s largest refineries shutter operations.
According to analysis by Michael Mische, a USC professor, the impending closures of the Phillips 66 refinery in Los Angeles and the Valero facility in Northern California could lead to a staggering 21% drop in refining capacity over the next three years.
Mische warns that such disruptions could drive prices at the pump to $8 per gallon or higher.

Yee hah !
Tesla’s are so yesterday, there’s plenty of other EV cars to choose from, more affordable, and with less problems. If Frumpies tariffs weren’t blocking Toyota, I’d get their $15,000 EV SUV!
Don’t you want to tax the rich? His tariffs aren’t blocking Toyotas, that big, evil corporation merely has to pay the import tax to be able to sell it to you, how greedy of them! There are plenty of those in the US right now, most importantly car parts and many things like that are exempt from the tariffs. You can buy one of those brand new right now at Midcity motor. They are sitting in the lot as I type this.
So you really think that if the rich pay tariffs, they’re not going to pass that cost on to us? ok 👍😂 His tariffs are raising prices, but go ahead keep telling yourself it’s not, and that it’s whose fault, oh yeah the person not in charge anymore. The Toyota I’m talking about has not been released here yet. EVs here start much higher than 15g unless maybe you want a smart car or a Leaf and those are just too tiny, I’d be afraid of getting smushed. Also I’m not going to pay an arm and a leg for a vehicle that cost more than a down payment on a house.
You think the poor don’t pass the cost of being poor? “Including federal, state, and local funds, California’s per capita spending on income support programs is 81 percent higher than the average expenditures for all other states – per capita spending of $3,869 compared to $2,141. These expenditures include “cash assistance paid directly to needy persons . . . vendor payments made directly to private purveyors for medical care, burials, and other commodities and services provided under welfare programs; and provision and operation by the government of welfare institutions…
Not only does California spend significantly more for these programs on a per capita basis, the state also devotes a larger share of its total resources toward income support programs – 20.5 percent of expenditures compared to 18.9 percent.”
Truth Bomb Warning !
your comment may be harmful to the mental health of some of these commentators
So what is your suggested solution for this? It is a problem in need of a solution IMHO.
The very wealth you can only exist if the very poor exist. So even though there is considerable amount spent in aid to impoverish people, a truly equitable system would see the wealthy paying far more back to the community. But most of it would be in decent wages rather than assistance programs.
True equity would be equal effort equal reward equal risk equal reward that and stop attempting to punish those that put in the extra effort over come the extra risk to fund those that just dont feel like it
Oh please, most of these guys inherited their wealth; see Trump and Musk.

Thank you. I had missed doing that in error. Usually I do.
You’re welcome!
Yeah, Huffer wants to instead, sell off our waters to, you guessed it, billionaires, for wind farms that will devastate the coastline. He’d vote for this bill if it were his billionaires who supported it.
“Their bill will sell off our lands, waters, and wildlife to fund tax cuts.”
Huff the POS dragon, instead of selling off lands, he flat out gives away land to tribes, who have proven at every step they can’t be given a house, a car or anything else and take care of it. They trash everything they touch.
But go ahead, keep spreading your lies. The left wing media will continue to report it as truth. You’re nothing but a delusionist.
I don’t see any problem with ol huff puff trying to block drilling and gas leasing in a place that doesn’t exist. We need to drill baby drill in the good ol Gulf of America though!
The difference between offshore oil and offshore wind is that offshore wind is a renewable, clean energy source with negligible proven environmental harm.
Bullshit
Ahh.
A well-researched, scientifically-based response.
Clearly I stand corrected.
The wind energy is no more renewable than fossil fuels. It takes raw materials to make the wind turbines. It takes a tremendous amount of energy to take them from raw materials to finished product. Plus, mining is far more detrimental that drilling a hole and pumping out oil. Twenty miles offshore means the two things that don’t mix, water and electricity. The cables and anchors are a hazzard to marine life. Electric transmission lines have been linked to cancer, so what about the marine mammals and their health? There… does that further explain the previous response BULLSHIT?
You’re still lacking any evidence to support your claims.
So where are YOUR references? I don’t see any in your comments either…
Burial of used wind turbine blades…That’s a D9 at the top of the photo.
Uh, you’ve a bang for the buck issue Jebs. Sharpen your pencil and get back to us after you’ve done your homework.
If certain people who keep on yelling about public transportation actually took the bus themselves, then they might have a 0.001% point, but….since they are hypocrites, their word is as believable as that societal parasite Hunter The White Cracker Crackhead. Offshore windmills shred birds and kill cetaceans, fact. Why do Democrats want to kill whales so they can play Nintendo Frogger? Answer; Gollum. They just don’t care or Pnut and Fred the Raccoon would still be alive eating waffles and slurping down Vanilla Flurries from Sonic. But they just couldn’t allow that. To them, those critters deserved to die. No matter how much they claim otherwise, Science is never Settled. #1 rule of the Science Club, don’t claim Science is settled when you can’t describe the molecular structure of a water molecule without google. Reality. Buses matter, now don’t they….
Or when you can show me the isolated Covid virus, then I’ll believe their science.
I’m sorry you hate whales and sea birds …
Whether offshore energy or oil drilling, the profits on both go to foreigners. It would be less of a fiasco if the government actually arranged their policies to that the profits benefited its citizens rather than make them pay for the profits of foreign corporations. We certainly would not have to pay so much more that necessary forever.
I think we can at least agree that large privately-run projects tend to make the rich richer.
It’s the baseless claims about the imagined environmental harm from offshore wind that I’ve never understood.
Once, I would have asked if people are really so ignorant about how scientific research works.
But now I realize that’s a rhetorical question.
Crock of sheeit , off shore wind is not even possible without increasing the cost per kw by over 5 times and uses more fossil fuel when you account for manufacturing shipping installing and maintaining then the amount of energy it will produce , in fact there is not a single offshore turbine that has successfully produced stated lifetime productions see the blades are not even fully developed and they suffer premature failures on the leading edges , renewable about as much as the sucker tax and rate payers
Communist China will drill where we don’t…
huffman is a fool, a showboat, and actually has done zip while he has been in office, other than pander. ( no. that’s not a chinese bear)
Ca and the Newsom Government are bracing for a 10 billion dollar shortfall, and California was forced to borrow 6.2 billion dollars to cover the expanded Medical program to cover illegals .
Incredible, ain’t it?!
The 6.2-billion-dollar shortfall comes a year after California launched an ambitious coverage expansion to provide free health care to all low-income adults regardless of their immigration status. That’s costing far more than the state projected.
https://news.oilandgaswatch.org/post/why-trumps-drill-baby-drill-policies-will-not-reduce-u-s-oil-and-gasoline-prices
Americans simply want lower fuel prices. Huff will obstruct that idea while he impliments his “save the kelp” campaign.
And then anchors his windmills in the kelp beds….
Also false
My hero Speaks. Buy foreign Oil buy foreign metal It will save our country!! Ship any American recourses to China so they can make shit for us! They do it way better for the environment than we can. Child labor for the win.
“Everybody else is moving away from coal and China seems to be stepping on the gas,” she says. “We saw that China has six times as much plants starting construction as the rest of the world combined.” And right after they make it, they ship it to the US.

Yes. This was to be expected. When the DEMs insisted on running a victim of Alzheimers (Biden) w/o a primary…then appointed in his place the “Border Czar” – when the Border Failure was a huge issue…. that’s when the DEMs gave our election away to Trump. All this “fighting” by HuffPuff is meaningless because it’s already over HuffyBoy. YOU and your buddies screwed us all over!! NOW you want to come on as ” Caring So Much”?!! Screw you. Screw the DEM party. Yeah of course- Screw Trump and Screw the Billionaires too but don’t try to pretend your party is not complicit. Your party also sold out the working class taxpayers to suckle at the teat of the billionaires. You suck too!!!!
It’s true. The DNC screwed over Bernie. If they had not done that we probably would have never seen Trump become president in the first place.
bhaa haa haa, right
Maybe. At least we would have had some real substantial debates and the American people would have had a real alternative strategy to think about. Hilary and her lying DNC destroyed the DEM party….
Same result with Bernie…MAGA…
The way to get cheap fuel is by curtailing profits for corporations that extract and refine petroleum products. They are an absolutely disgustingly profitable industry.
Also there should be extremely generous government subsidies for alternative energy sources and electric vehicles.
Of course we also need nuclear plants wherever it is safe to build them.
Yeah, like the government is actually going to fund and complete a project for the benefit of its citizens. The last one I remember is the California high speed railroad that has yet to even come close to being finished. How’s that working for you?
The way to get cheap fuel is to stop taxing it into oblivion
Huffman is my favorite…
I am convinced that the human race will exterminate itself through Nuclear Exchange long before Climate Change will kill us…
As long as we keep electing rich idiots and convicted felons, it’s gonna keep getting weirder…
Huffman is screaming into the void, and I think he protests too much…
There are a lot of angles to energy, and things change often, but wind, solar, electric cars and expensive everything will not help…
Stop taxing Seniors, and then we will be able to draw our Social Security, Bank Interest, Rents and IRA MRD’s until we expire, and this should give you all a little more time to figure out a solution…
An asteroid or comet is currently hurtling through space . Its trajectory. Earth. When, sooner than later but too late to do anything about. Unstoppable. World killer. You better hope you are deemed important and are considered by the elite to join their underground city club. Ask Paperbag Huffer about this, he knows. He is deemed too important to not be saved. Scary. And guess what, unfortunately or fortunately depending on how you look at it (my view is why would I want want to live underground with elite freak scum like Paperbag Huffer for a decade, not) you will never be allowed to join the Club for Moles. Climate change and nuclear war are nothing compared to what’s coming. Poof, And just like that, the Earth becomes the Moon.
Huffman is battling. Against the ~100 or so so-called “think tanks”, other front organizations (with non-profit status, courtesy of the “administrative [Federal, Deep] state”, lol), and alt-right and oil-corporation funded “media advisory” specialists and firms

Big little “media” players like Gunesekara are friends of big oil, hands down. Hired operatives for the biggest, wealthiest most ultranationalist, ultra conservative money and dark-money distributors in the nation.

“Thank you very much, Mr. Chair. Miss Gunasekara. You’re here advocating… I heard you mention the CO2 Coalition a few times. You believe they should have a credible seat at the table in climate policy, correct? “

“Yeah, I believe all scientists should have a credible… “
Ocasio-Cortez [2:19:01]
“So the CO2 Coalition Are you aware that they are primarily funded by the Mercer family and the Koch brothers?”
Gunasekara [2:19:06]
“So I’m not familiar with the makings of the institution. I just recently came on board as an advisor that that works with them, but I’m not a part of the infrastructure so to speak.”
Ocasio-Cortez [2:19:18]
“So you may be unwitting to the fact that this coalition that you’re a part of is funded by the Mercer family and the Koch brothers. Are you aware that the Koch brothers own oil refineries across several states in the United States and control some 4000 miles of gas pipeline and infrastructure?”
Gunasekara [2:19:33]
“Yes. “
Ocasio-Cortez [2:19:35]
“Do you think that there may be any role in their financing with the CO2 Coalition with the advancement of their private interests?”
Gunasekara [2:19:40]
“Again, I don’t know about the financing with regard to the CO2 Coalition. I’ll say my engagement with them though, is it’s not unwitting. It is active, and inspired, and educated because a lot of these folks are scientists that have long been diminished and ignored. And the CO2 Coalition has provided a platform for them to provide reality and balance in the context of the climate discussion.”
Ocasio-Cortez [2:20:07]
“Understood. Thank you for your testimony that you are not unwittingly working for the Koch brothers.”

😂😂😂
1million dollars? Sounds like a lot of money.
Paper bag Huffer is an attorney from Marin County. A county that is so wealthy, it is the exact opposite of one of the poorest, Humboldt. So who do you think Huffer represents? It’s more than obvious it ain’t Humboldt since he wants to stuff windmills up our butts up here after his real constituents down there told him hell NO, and, if he even tried, he would be recalled and fired.
You do realize the Golden Gate Potato patch area is one of the windiest locations on the West Coast, right? There goes that excuse.. You do realize they already have toxic waste dumps for Ports down there, and the infrastructure for more toxic windmill building is already in place, right? There goes that excuse. You do realize many species of cetaceans are endangered, and losing just one to an offshore wind farm scheme is unacceptable, right? There goes that excuse, You do realize not one job beyond pumping gas will ever go to a Humboldt resident in relation to the failed wind farm notion as the Cement people unions from down south will never let that happen, right? The Italians don’t like just anyone messing with their ports if you get my drift. There goes that excuse. Now if you want the Italians controlling Humboldt Bay, I am all for that since I’m mostly Italian, and I welcome fellow gnocchi eaters but…..it looks like there are no more excuses left for offshore windmills anywhere, ever again. Ban offshore windmills foreva, protect Cetaceans and the Pacific Fly way from failed schemes and diabolical dumbazz notions.
Huffman is a tool. And not a good one
Definitely dull and worn out. To the scrap pile for him and his cronies.
A spoon fed flunky for the Democratic Central Committee
As usual, Huffman grossly exaggerates the bill. There is too much federal ownership and protection of those lands. This bill merely stops the excessive preservation and anti fossil fuel mentality. Activities will be still subject to rigid environmental requirements. You certainly dont see this hypocrite objecting to massive overdevelopment in marin and sonoma county. He belongs back in the midwest where he came from.

This pencil neck geek is such a pathetic Eco puppet whiner. What an embarrassment.
Thank you Jared Huffman!!!

“…Huffman, alongside his Democratic colleagues, presented a unified front to protect our communities, the American taxpayer, and our most cherished places.”
That’s a Goddamned lie. There’s nothing unified about the Democrat party at all.

LL, you went too far. This comment violates our policy against racist and discriminatory speech. Our site encourages a wide range of viewpoints, but we reserve the right to delete language that targets or stereotypes people based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, or religion.
Your comment does not merely criticize political positions or figures—it lists groups defined by race and identity in a mocking and derogatory manner. This framing reduces individuals to stereotypes, reinforces harmful prejudices, and invites hostility rather than dialogue.
I don’t have to host hate speech on my website. Don’t continue is this vein. I will ban you if necessary. I encourage a wide diversity of opinions but, eventually, if this type of language continues, I may need to ask you to go elsewhere to express yourself.
Thanks for what you do, Kym! You do have the widest diversity of viewpoints I’ve yet encountered in any news comments section. It bugs me when people are so stupid they disagree with me LOL- but I guess we have to put up with each other. Maybe sometimes we even reason it out. You’ve shut me down sometimes when I forget my sarcasm font but…I respect what you’re doing here. And with fire season coming….We Need You! I still think the government should help fund YOUR fire coverage- it’s the best and most timely.
I am probably too tolerant but LL went even past that line. There was just too much hate to stomach in one comment.
The context of the comment was to point out how the Marxist Democrats separate us by race, religion, ethnicity, gender and sexual orientation. The fact that you were outraged and immediately wring your hands and say, “racism” reinforced the point I was trying to make. But you do you, Kym.
Your website? Barack Hussein Obama would say, “ You didn’t build that.”
LL, you’re free to disagree with Democratic policies or political messaging, but your earlier comment didn’t do that. Instead, it listed a bunch of identity groups in a mocking tone meant to belittle—not debate.
Saying you’re just “pointing out how Democrats divide us” doesn’t excuse language that lumps people together and sneers at them based on race, gender, or sexuality. That’s not discussion—that’s just tossing around stereotypes.
I try to allow a wide range of viewpoints here, but I also have to draw the line somewhere. And that comment crossed it.
As to your last line… it’s a little odd to suddenly quote Obama about who built what—especially in a thread about your own comment getting moderated for violating our policy. If that’s meant as a dig, it feels like a deflection more than anything.
I built this site the old-fashioned way—with years of reporting, editing, moderating, and losing sleep over fire season. If you’re feeling attacked because I asked you not to stereotype people by race or identity, maybe take a breath and ask why that hit a nerve.
You’re still welcome to comment here—but bring your best ideas, not your worst instincts.
Fakeheart. The new 2025 motion picture release starring Paperbag Huffer, Paul Pelosi jr., his mommy Nancy, Oprah, Michelle Obama, Madonna, Doug Emhoff, Hillary, and Hunter Biden. Special appearances by Kamala the Zinfandel Hieroglyphic and King Joe Itdepends. A prehistoric tale of mud hut, thatched roof dwelling, beet root eating, poor pilgrims fighting for all of us. Fweeeddddommmmm! Get Trump, Argggghhhhhh! ! We demand Offsore Quisinarts now you deplorable bastards! Charge……..
All he has left are scare tactics and misinformation.
Pretty much. It’s pathetic and sad. Some of Trump’s stuff IS outrageously overreaching and I wish we had a real warrior in office to effectively help modify the agenda. Instead we have this Fearmongering wealthy blowhard….riling up anger, fear and division
I agree. We are extremely fortunate to have President Trump leading our nation to success.
