U.S. Forest Service Reissues Order to Enhance Public Safety on California National Forest Roads
Press release from the US Forest Service:
The The U.S. Forest Service has decided to reissue a Regional Order to provide for public safety. These California Vehicle Code sections regulate the possession and operation of Off-Highway Vehicles (OHVs) in California and contain the licensing requirements for all motor vehicles in California. This decision will enable Forest Service law enforcement personnel to enforce a portion of the California Vehicle Code to better provide for public safety on National Forest System lands. This Order will affect all National Forest System roads under regional jurisdiction within the State of California and will be in effect from September 1, 2024, through August 31, 2026.
There are 18 National Forests in California, totaling approximately twenty million acres, with approximately 43,300 miles of roads open to public motor vehicle use. Of these roads, approximately 35,000 miles are open to non-highway legal vehicles. Without this Regional Order, agency personnel may not have the authority to enforce the California Vehicle Code Divisions and their associated Chapters listed in the Regional Order HERE.
The Forest Service exercises its law enforcement authority when violations of law or regulation occur on National Forest System lands, including the National Forest System transportation system. Law enforcement and investigation personnel, which include law enforcement officers and forest protection officers, and other agency personnel provide a regular presence on millions of acres of National Forest System lands and take appropriate action if illegal activity is observed or discovered. In accordance with 36 C.F.R. §212.5(a)(1), traffic on National Forest System roads is subject to state traffic laws where applicable except when in conflict with designations established under 36 C.F.R. Part 212, Subpart B, or with the regulations found at 36 C.F.R. Part 261.

Not much need for the expen$ive cop$ since dope money has gone south.
Number of ‘horror’ stories coming out over ‘USFS Cops’ stopping people for most anything.

USFS…
Need more tickets ! Need more tickets ! Need more tickets !
—
Actually…
Need more road clearing.
Need more slash removal.
Need more road maintenance.
Need more sign maintenance.
Need more trail maintenance.

Go figure
Don’t forget to wear a seatbelt on your dirt bike! That’s a big money ticket right there. Oh and you better have fully functioning lights and turn signals out in the middle of the woods where nobody ever goes in the middle of the day because that there is a big ticket too!
Everything not mandated is prohibited.
You must be free because the government said … And they took your money to tell you so!
So in a few sentences what are they saying ? Too much government lawyer speak .
Even though I have issues with the national forest I will say our local law enforcement in the national forest is actually a cool guy .
Trail clearing is done by the people that walk the trail . Same with the camping areas for hunting . There’s trees laying all over the place. The national forest is busting pot and pays no attention to their job.
Yet another bureaucrat scam to get your money.
USFS is a very corrupt government organization with its own law enforcement. (like the cartels)
Their appetite for the taxpayers’ money is unstoppable. They act like they have a right to our money. They intentionally let fire go especially around here where it is easier to control and manage because of the moisture. They use it as their training ground for their new little fire bugs. They deserve no respect. The burn scars from intentional burning around Willow Creek are a crime scene. Forest service executives should be in jail and there should be a complete reorganization of the department
I watched them on the August complex and was astounded. They will watch your house burn. That’s not a joke. They don’t fight fire on private property. Even if they start it, and somehow are not legally responsible either. Do not think they will protect your property.
Arbitrary power grab by bureaucrats. Go away. Chevron deference was overturned.
Usfs, BLM, and natl park police have weaseled their way into the money stream and will want more as alot of fat cat desk rangers near early retirement at 55.
Pretty sure this has NOTHING to do with public safety. It seems that it’s just another way to make sure we bend to the king as we try to enjoy OUR lands.
Sounds like a federal standing army given the power to enforce regulations at their discretion over the civilian population
Forest service needs to disappear. They are a joke. They start fires They can not put out. They do 0 land management. I have not seen a piss fir Willie in over 20 years. They are not needed. Give it over to cal fire. Forest service caused all the devastating up at Ruth lake. And have been doing it for years. No wonder fire Insurance is so high and they have 0 responsibilities
