[Updated] Jaws of Life Requested for Two-Vehicle Collision on Henderson

According to scanner traffic, one vehicle was on top of another vehicle, near Henderson and K Streets. The occupants of one of the vehicles were initially reported to not be moving, and one occupant was unconscious. A subsequent transmission indicated one of the occupants was able to extricate themselves but had a head wound. The other occupant, a female, was reported to need medical to move them.
Those on scene reported that at least one of the vehicles were in the front yard of a residence.
Traffic on Henderson is snarled. Please avoid the area if possible.
Please remember that this story is unfolding. Information is being reported as we gather it. However, some of the information coming from witnesses and initial official reports could be wrong. We will do our best to get the facts but, in the case that something is inaccurate, we will update with correct information as soon as we can.
Update 8:55 a.m.:
Photojournalist, Mark McKenna, is on scene.
Update 9:06 a.m.:
Henderson Street is closed at M and J Streets, while K Street remains open to the intersection at Henderson, McKenna reports.
Additionally, officers at scene are giving the driver of the truck a field sobriety test.
Though initial scanner traffic indicated that one of the vehicles was on top of the other vehicle, the images from the scene do not show that. It is unknown at this time if one of the vehicles had gone over the top of the other, prompting that initial report to emergency dispatch.
Update 10 a.m.: Mark McKenna reports that both drivers of the two involved vehicles have been taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation. At this time, the results of the field sobriety test are unknown.
The Caltrans QuickMap shows that traffic if flowing freely on Henderson.

Dang. I used to use Henderson to avoid accidents. What has changed?
Henderson, Harris, and Myrtle Ave. are the new bypass , well, not so new.
More evidence that a license to operate a motor vehicle is not a guarantee of ability. Maybe a medical event as probable cause? Situational awareness?
If it was Henderson and J Streets, it would make more sense. The city needs to force some shrub trimming at that corner. Bu Henderson & K is wide open visibility. I go through that intersection virtually every day. Hmmm… Of course, at one of these (I forget which) intersections in my neighborhood, yesterday as I was approaching the intersection – no stop sign for my street – a guy went straight through the stop sign on the intersecting street like it wasn’t even there. If I’d been 3 seconds faster getting to the intersection, he’d have T-boned me on the driver’s side. People can’t drive all that well & are getting worse.
“People” don’t do anything very well. Ask those two sucker’s stuck on the space station.
Isn’t that the stuff of nightmares.
Henderson and J is wide open visibility. For some reason people think it is a four way stop ( after the bulb outs) and that causes many near misses.
Seems to be the norm in Eureka nowadays. Speed limit is 45-50 down major . God forbid you are driving legal, person behind you is so close you can read their lips.
Drunk before 9. Excellent. Highly motivated individual.
It looks like that WAS a really nice Bronco.
They are nice. But what are they used for. Not to haul stuff. I guess the owners can pretend the cement highways and byways are actually off road dirt 4 by 4 trails while they head to the nearest cement car camping spot in the state park. It also looks like they are tanks since the Toyota looks like it got run over by a monster truck. I’ll still take the old reliable Toyota pickup any day over found on road dead overpriced vehicles.
Alf, I bet you could buy that slightly used Bronco for a really good price. A little Gorilla Tape and polish and she be as good as new.
New ‘Broncos’ are just new bodies (and doodads) on Ford Escape/Focus models.
Not like the old ‘original’ trucks. Then later on you had the Bronco II (the rollover model).
Back in the early 70s the CJ5, CJ7, Toyota Land Cruiser and the old style Bronco were the major off-road rigs. The classics are indeed some of the best. On the other hand, I used to pull out Toyota 4x4s with a stock AMC Eagle coup 4×4 and then drive through where they got stuck. Driver is a huge part of off-road driving.
A good 1972 chevy blazer would keep right up with all of them with more power and comfort . 3500 bucks loaded. Those were the days!
The driver of the Toyota pickup was drunk and went through a stop sign hitting the Bronco and sending it partially into the house. EPD has arrested and booked the Toyota driver for driving drunk and driving on a suspended license. I sure hope that jackass gets some real serious jail time!!! He could have killed someone.
