[UPDATE 8:35 p.m.: Wrap Up of What We Know] Grange Fire Near Boonville Threatens Structures in Mendocino County

The Grange Fire, discovered on at 3:38 PM, is composed of multiple blazes in the Anderson Valley Grange in the Boonville area of Mendocino County. There are multiple fires totally approximately 30 acres.  The fire is spreading rapidly. The fir is threatening equipment from KZYX. The Air attack has requested multiple aircraft and equipment and called this a Two alarm Fire.

Emergency responders are actively battling the fires to prevent further spread and minimize damage to properties. Residents in the vicinity are urged to stay alert and be prepared for potential evacuation orders as the situation evolves. In addition to the Grange Fire, another fire has been reported along the coast near Albion, adding to the strain on local firefighting resources. Firefighters are also fighting the Acorn Fire near Clear Lake.

UPDATE 4:08 p.m.: More resources are requested and the fire has been upped to a three alarm fire.

UPDATE 4:10 p.m.: Law enforcement is attempting to stop a vehicle that was pulling a trailer that may have started the incident.

UPDATE 4:17 p.m.: Caltrans is reporting that Route 128 is CLOSED near Boonville in Mendocino County (PM 25-26) due to the #GrangeFire.

UPDATE 4:19 p.m.: Genasys Evacuation Map is showing an evacuation warning. Please keep checking for the latest information if you live near the area.

UPDATE 4:43 p.m.: A deputy reports that there are residents refusing to leave a fully engulfed residence on Denmark? Creek. He’s requesting assistance.

Multiple evacuation orders have been issued. See Genasys Map for which ones. Remember to zoom into see roads and landmarks for each area. Also clicking a zone will pop up a description of its boundaries on the left.

The fire has crossed Highway 128. Multiple areas are being evacuated.

UPDATE 4:58 p.m.: Six additional tankers have been requested.

UPDATE 5:20 p.m.: Another fully involved residence reported over the scanner.

UPDATE 6:02 p.m.: WatchDuty is reporting, “Fire is now 125 acres, approximatley 50 acres on one one side & approximately 70 acres on the eastside with multiple spots out in front of it. Spotting near Peachland Road should be main focus. Per IC.”

UPDATE 6:09 p.m.: KMUD News is reporting, “The power is out to over 1,100 residents. Scanner traffic indicated that power lines were on fire in the vicinity of the fire, the likely cause of the outage. PG&E stated, “Our team is evaluating the electrical system to identify damaged sections and make necessary repairs in order to safely turn the power back on.” Check for updates at www.pge.com

Highway 128 is fully closed at Lemons Market to Peachland Road. All traffic is being turned around. Check for road updates here: www.quickmap.dot.ca.gov

UPDATE 7:34 p.m.: KZYX studio is still standing, according to a recent tweet. 

UPDATE 8:35 p.m.: Caltrans reports, “Route 128 is open to one-way controlled traffic near Boonville in Mendocino County (PM 25-26) due to the #GrangeFire.” 

Most evacuation orders have been reduced to evacuation warnings. (See the Genasys Map for the most current information.

Cal Fire is currently estimating the fire at 150 acres.

It seems that every time I turn on the Lost Coast Outpost there is another wildland fire raising its nasty head. I can’t imagine that we have enough firefighting resources to cope with all of these fires. I think the National Guard is being used in some areas. They have a lot of equipment and people and should all be trained in fire suppression.
