FlightRadar showing Hwy incident

This evening, several grass fires are reported to be burning alongside Highway 101 north of Stafford near Shively Road. Both ground and air resources have been dispatched to the incidents, first reported at approximately 5:28 p.m.

One lane has been closed and Caltrans QuickMap shows traffic slowing in the area.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Traffic Incident Information Page, the fires were spotted on the right-hand side of the northbound lanes. No vehicles were seen in the vicinity of the flames. Initial reports confirmed that the fires were composed solely of grass and had not yet affected the roadway. However, the flames were said to be spreading into heavy vegetation, according to scanner traffic.

Forward progress was reported to be stopped as of 5:42 p.m. by fire personnel at the scene.

Please remember that information gathered from initial reports is subject to revision as more facts become available.

Kym, could you please add WILLITS VFD to your donation list? I have been adding it on an individual basis, down where it belongs, at the end of the list.

If folks could stop tossing their cigarettes and joint ends out the window, that would be great!

Also, as Kym mentioned, donate to these firefighters that do an amazing job in the north coast region.

Oddly… there was a similar er… ‘road-side’ fire there a few years ago.
Burned about 1/4 mile along the road and went up into the trees about maybe 50 yards.

Since dragging chains accidentally is a rare sight, perhaps it was a chain dragging disgruntled Caltrans employee who got fired before he got to weedeat that last stretch of road, so he decided to do the work voluntarily? Maniac who likes seeing things burn? Bum hobo? Rat or rabbit who scrambled out of a burn pile which was on fire and scurried while on fire along the Highway dry grass? Meteor shower of burning hot pinhead sized particles? Terrorist border jumper trying to create chaos by tossing burning garbage out the window while driving by? Hmmm..Go figure anything…..I’ll go with the pinhead meteor shower for 100k Alex….

Yes cal fire rocks in my opinion also but national forest fire teams not so much they don’t put out fires on private property even if they start it

Thanks for proving our point!

Hey Kym….. maple creek vfd disbanded approximately 8 years ago while I still lived there. Both my neighbor friends and their equipment became too antiquated to continue. They were located at maple creek school. You could contact the school for confirmation.
Thanks for all you do!

While you’re updating, how about adding WILLITS VFD to the list.
