They have really been quick to act on these fires. Get em early..
Fog has returned here on the coast and no wind. Hope this signals better conditions for the firefighters.
Seems like a lot of fires starting on the west coast for no reason. Arson?
Windy conditions give anyone with a grudge against “society” to get their measure of….revenge?
Jeez Louise! One word answer? WIND
Let me paint a scenario:
Our state has somewhere over 35 million residents. Some of them are stupid. Multiple times everyday somebody starts a fire. Stupid or not we surround ourselves with heat. Like water heaters, stoves, cars, 12v center console rice cookers…so everyday there are ignitions. Only about half the time, the weather is hot and dry. Fires barely start, or go out when it is cold and rainy. Mike Etter once said,
“You can’t burn a watermelon.”
So here comes summer, hot and dry, then you get a windy day behind another regular ignition, and we’re off to the races! If an arsonist is trying to set the world on fire NOW, they need to go back and study fire science, and a little meteorology. Except for wind, this is not a bad time for low intensity beneficial fire…around Pecwan! Wink wink!
All of them are stupid.
in response to the mike etter quote, my ex could.
Or flicking their cigarette butt out the window while dragging a tow chain.
Both happen everyday. But when it’s at the hottest time of day, late summer they can cause a start. Right now we’re just getting into the season where those two ignition sources are only sorta possible for a couple afternoon hours, in the driest cured grass.
Starting fires used to keep CAMP grounded.
I think it started in the Pecwan, wichpek area years ago.
Now it’s carelessness or just hateful people.
Regular low intensity burning HAS been undertaken in the region for thousands of years, so maybe not all bad, all the time even if it’s a little outlaw by today’s standards.
That’s beautiful country around Cappell Creek. Some of the best fly fishing for steelhead in California.
Would be nice to have a map with these fire stories that shows where the heck some of these places are. Pecwan? Yes one can leave the site and go googling and a) that is a distraction that may mean the reader doesn’t stay as long on this site and b) looking things up, which most of us have to do a lot already these days, that easily can be provided by posters etc. gets exhausting
