Trinidad Art Gallery will celebrate the work of silk painter Amanita Mollier and jeweler Susan Kohl with an opening reception on Saturday June 27 from 5-8 pm. Join us for snacks, wine pour benefitting Trinidad Coastal Land Trust, live music and an opportunity to meet many of the gallery’s 25 local artists.
Amanita Mollier was introduced to silk painting 30 years ago, and was fascinated with the possibilities of the medium, which balances spontaneity with the ability to achieve fine detail. She paints dye directly on silk fabric, using a variety of brushes. Hot wax resist outlines shapes and protects light areas. Finished paintings are steamed to make the dye permanent, and the works can be used for fine art, home decor or wearables.
Susan Kohl’s jewelry is inspired by the stones that she uses. Many are cut from materials found locally and shaped into cabochons by her husband, supplemented with special stones from around the world. Susan’s life-long love affair with rocks and minerals suffuses her work and she hopes that her pieces will inspire a love of minerals in the wearer.
