This is a press release from Indivisible Ukiah:
All of US: Equality Not Erasure Indivisible Ukiah invites community members to participate in a rally on Saturday, June 27 from 10 AM to 12 Noon at N State Street in front of the Mendocino County Courthouse. More information is available online at https://actionnetwork.org/events/indivisible-ukiah-all-of-us
This year marks the 250th Anniversary of America’s Declaration of Independence, and the United States is at an unprecedented crossroads. Our country should be coming together to celebrate all that we are, how far we’ve come, and commit to finishing the work to make America a place where freedom and equality are truly for all. But the white supremacist faction is pushing our country in the opposite direction.
The MAGA regime is trying to erase our past so they can whitewash our future. Their actions include:
- firing high level women and African-American military officers
- banning trans people from serving in the military (recently overturned in the courts)
- canceling critical scientific research over so called “woke” research studies that merely include words like “women”
- issuing an executive order declaring that only the gender identified at birth is legitimate
- rolling back our hard-won civil rights victories
- removing and attempting to remove all references to slavery, racism, and genocide from public spheres
- only presenting the contributions to society by heterosexual white men in their public signage and literature
We refuse to comply. We are coming together on June 27 to stand proudly as patriotic Americans who commit ourselves to:
- Repair our full history rather than erase it.
- Celebrate the progress we have made through struggle.
- Commit to the work to ensure liberty and equality for All of US.
“Here in California, there’s a lot of ways the state government is actively confronting the Federal government both in court and via legislation,” notes Janet Rosen, a spokesperson for Indivisible Ukiah. “But even with that support, we do live and work and love and raise families within the United States of America. It’s critical that we as individuals and en masse speak up and push back to defend our cherished freedoms.”
She also notes that the upcoming November ballot will include an as-yet unnumbered Proposition since the state Voter ID Initiative was certified. This would make it very difficult for many citizens – including currently registered California voters – to exercise their right to vote because of the burden of proof or of access to polling places.
Indivisible Ukiah is part of Indivisible, a nationwide network of people organized for nonviolent political advocacy,. Locally we partner with other community organizations to promote bedrock American principles like due process and civil rights for all human beings. Our volunteers are active in mutual aid projects promoting access to healthy food, support for our immigrant families and neighbors, supporting civil rights and freedom from mass surveillance, and access to free and fair elections.
The local rally will provide an opportunity for people to gather to express their opposition to the Trump administration. It will include speeches, music, and expressions of hope for peaceful political change.
