At 4:52 p.m., a massive power outage struck the area spanning from Orick to east of Arcata, leaving approximately 4,000 PG&E customers without electricity. The unexpected outage is inconveniencing both residents and businesses.

PG&E estimates that power in the McKinleyville area will be restored around 7 p.m. However, for those in Trinidad and the surrounding regions, the wait will be much longer, with current projections indicating that power may not be restored until 3:15 a.m. the following day.

The power outage has forced several businesses to close early. Residents are now facing the dinner hour without electricity, causing problems with meal preparations and other evening activities.

PG&E crews are currently working to resolve the issue and restore power. Meanwhile, residents are advised to take necessary precautions, such as using flashlights instead of candles to avoid fire hazards and keeping refrigerators and freezers closed to preserve food.

For updates on the restoration efforts, customers can visit the PG&E website or contact their customer service line.

Literally nothing is full proof. Things can go wrong at any time, in an unlimited amount of ways, in any given situation. Like come on now.

That’s unhinged and completely unrelated to the power outage. I pity those tormented by Chronic TDS.

Powers is on here somewhere where power went out. Probably the Russians offshore chucked a wrench in the system. Flexing their muscles. Cell phone coverage went out as well. Now that’s kinda weird isn’t it? Is Pge connected to the cell phone somehow? We are in the Pacific Naval Training Designated Training Area. Maybe it was a ufo? Or a F-35 chasing a ufo? Hmmmm. Solar electromagnetic flare? Nah, it was man caused climate change. Go figure…..

Did you loose AT&T or another cell signal coverage too? This is the third time this happened to me recently at the same time I lost power. I also know Pg&e had generators running for a week straight for general maintenance recently, which I suspect has contributed to bears going to town more.

Cellular towers require electricity, duh. If power goes out, only a few of the major cellular hubs have backup power. So, power goes down, cell service goes away. It’s not rocket science, and it’s certainly not some conspiracy.

Let them have their moment of excitement. Everything–even a power outage on a windy day–is an opportunity for the RHBB commenters to blame the opposite political party.

Power was only out for a little more than 2 1/2 hours, I would say that many people in Humboldt County are well prepared for that.

With the last upgrades that I made to my mini me micro grid, I’ve been off grid (electricity) for almost 3 months.

With him it’s not a power outage. The lights are on but nobody’s home.
