[UPDATE 4:25 p.m.: Photo and Info From Garberville VFD] Fire North of Garberville in Homeless Encampment
Traffic is moving slowly on Redwood Drive north of Garberville after a fire started about 3:40 p.m. in the homeless encampment near Alderpoint Road.

The smoke is black, but firefighters are at the scene dealing with the situation.

UPDATE 4:25 p.m.: According to Incident Commander, Garberville Fire Chief, Tim Tietz, a 20 x 30 structure was mostly consumed by the fire. The structure appeared to be unoccupied, he told us.

PLEASE, everyone, remember that ALL of the North Coast, and a large portion of the South coast and rural inland are ENTIRELY VFD’s. If you are able-bodied, please consider becoming a volunteer. ALL of us should consider donating, as we never know when an emergency will impact us. We’ve ALL read our share of articles here about them (thank you for always keeping us updated, Kym!)
