Don’t Dump and Run; Donate or Schedule Bulky Items Pick-up
This is a press release from the City of Arcata:
The City of Arcata needs the community’s help to eliminate illegal dumping and unsightly littering in our streets, alleys and other public right-of-ways.
A lot of unwanted furniture, dishes, books, and other items are left on street corners and sidewalks. Especially with the rainy season, these items often get ruined and soaked by the rain. Once this happens it is hard to clean up and is often left as litter on the streets and sidewalks. The City of Arcata is required to keep streets and sidewalks clean and safe meaning City crews must often stop other work to pick up the unwanted mattresses, sofas and clothes for transport to the landfill.
When no longer in want or need something, the best thing to do is to donate it. This ensures that the item does not end up in the landfill and that the person on the receiving end will save money and resources by not buying it new. There are various local thrift stores that will accept gently used items that are in good condition. A list of local thrift stores and non-profits can be found on the City website at cityofarcata.org/790/Waste-Prevention-Resources and on the City’s “Don’t Dump and Run” brochure, available at City Hall or online at tinyurl.com/DDR2024. Please make sure that all items are clean, dry, and in good working condition. Please call before donating to confirm items accepted and hours!
If thrift stores and non-profits don’t take the items, make sure to take it to the appropriate disposal site. Check the Materials Management Guide at tinyurl.com/materialsmanagement2024 to learn how to properly dispose of everything from a light bulb to appliances and furniture.

Pretty pathetic when people can’t sit outside and eat their lunch.
Coming to a town near you?
And how is this related to the article? ?
It’s not. Hot Coffee is indoctrinated to the whole RW “fear” of the USA is going down. The ReTrumplicans think this fear mongering is somehow going to mean a win for their savior and then everything will be fine.
tRump winning elections since 2018!!
Go “Red Wave” ?
It’s kind of pricy at $14 just to dump some books that the thrift store may not be taking. I’m not partial to free items in the rain on the curb, but many can’t afford $14 every time they have extra waste.
Besides if you burned the books to stay warm… you automatically become a Nazi – in Arcata.
People that dump and run will feel guilty after reading Arcata’s brochure and become model citizens. If you don’t believe that – you are just a hater!
