Traffic on Highway 101 south of Willits on the Ridgewood Grade has been diminished to one lane this morning after a box truck crashed reportedly spilling diesel fuel in the roadway.

The California Highway Patrol Traffic Incident Information page indicates a box truck crashed in the southbound lane of Highway 101 around 5:01 a.m. just south of the quarry on the Willits Grade coming to rest near the center divider. Immediately reports of diesel fuel leaking from the wreck into the roadway were sent to the dispatcher.

As a result, Highway 101 has been diminished to a one-way traffic operation from Ridgewood Road to Mariposa Creek Road and hazardous materials crews work to secure the scene. As per the Caltrans Quickmap, officials estimate the road to reopen to full traffic around 10:00 a.m. today.

Clever parking on the driver’s part. All kidding aside, it could have been much worse by crashing into a vehicle or vehicles. Happy the driver was not hurt, except for his pride.

Drove past the spot an hour ago. Being repaired now. Based on what I saw, the driver was heading northbound.
