Air Attack 120, Tanker 96 and Chopper 909 are all assigned to the fire.
The Humboldt/Del Norte Division of Cal Fire is making access by land.
The fire is reported to be 1/4 acre as of 6:20 p.m.
Please remember that information gathered from initial reports is subject to revision as more facts become available.
UPDATE 7:05 p.m.: The air attack and Tanker 96 have left the fire and headed to base. Below is video of the tanker coming in earlier:
UPDATE 7:09 p.m.: Copter 909 was just released off the Cook Incident as the sun drops below the horizon.
UPDATE 7:38 p.m.: Thanks to our KMUD sister station who covered things while we were fixing dinner, we know that “crews on scene report that the fire is under control. Firefighters will remain on scene to finish containment.” There is a four hour estimated mop up time.

That looks like the county line ranch aka dimmick ranch
KUDOS to those pilots and all our first responders! Really fast response. I got air sick watching that plane dive down and then back up so steeply…crazy flying! Heroes, every day.
I wonder if that has anything to do with the person seen driving north from Sonoma county a couple/few days ago with an incendiary shooting implement. Flare gun??
Its the South Fork of the Eel River
And your full name is Edward…But those who know you understand that Ed is a great short way to speak about you. If you can’t figure out that I’m speaking about the South Fork of the Eel River and just shortened it to something less long and stilted, then maybe you’re not a local. But anyone, like you who grew up around here, knows that locals call this the Eel River knowing full well there is the North Fork of the Eel River and the Main stem of the Eel River and when it is necessary we make that clear. But when we are talking about Cooks Valley—if you don’t know which branch of the Eel we’re talking about, then you aren’t likely reading this little website.
Sounds like in taters from Jamming with Edward.
LOL. Join the club. I’ve always said, “If you know what somebody should have said, you know what they said”.
You have no idea how many great stories have been derailed by someone interrupting and correcting something and totally disrupting the narritive.
So… is that why ive been told many times that the south fork of the Eel has a dam on it… its called Pillsbury.
If anyone tells you that, they are unclear on the forks of the Eel River.
So two letters (SF) is too long? We graduated from SFHS, Which is on the SF Eel River. And No, no one I grew up with ever called the SF Eel, the “Eel”. And we never call it SoHum, or the Emerald Triangle and we never called people growing weed “farmers”, and never called it the “Lost Coast”, Quit making it something its not!
Ed, Practically no one but you doesn’t know what I’m referring to with any of those terms. I can’t help it that you have a problem understanding them after having been exposed to them for years. I’m sorry that it is difficult for you to deal with what you perceive as change.
I wish more people would question what people say, use the correct name and meaning, instead of a long list a fallacies that contain no logic, reasoning or truth. The problem with your assumptions; is that when you think you know enough to think you are right, but not enough to know you are wrong. I am not sorry I question what people say, I wish more people did. Asking questions is not negative, its how we all learn and gain knowledge and pass that knowledge on to others, like teaching, you know teaching, right? Did you ever stop your students from asking questions?
The only question in your earlier criticisms that I see is “So two letters (SF) is too long?”
My answer is no, SF is not too long. But it is unnecessary. Again, you are the only person who seems to have this problem.
And you do know which fork of the Eel River I’m referring to, you just don’t like the way I do it. So…not too worried that I’m missing a teaching opportunity.
I guess I am the only one who cares that people call that river by its name, South Fork of the Eel River. Its called respect for a state and federal listed Wild & Scenic River
Not to mention the East Branch of the South Fork of the Eel River, locals just call the East Branch. Right Edward?
You are correct Karl, alot of local people still think its only called “East Branch” and are the same people that have no idea that old two-lane highway 101 (Redwood Highway) ran behind the Benbow Inn and across the stone arch bridge up over the hill to and thru Garberville and Redway., back when there was only one twin trees bridge.
Your are so negative..
Thank you for your eternal patience, Kym. Some people add to the understanding of a subject, and some are only able to criticize those who do.
