At a little after 6 p.m., dispatchers sent fire crews to the Cook Valley area near the Mendocino/Humboldt County border for the report of smoke in the area.

Air Attack 120, Tanker 96 and Chopper 909 are all assigned to the fire.

The Humboldt/Del Norte Division of Cal Fire is making access by land.

The fire is reported to be 1/4 acre as of 6:20 p.m.

Please remember that information gathered from initial reports is subject to revision as more facts become available.

UPDATE 7:05 p.m.: The air attack and Tanker 96 have left the fire and headed to base. Below is video of the tanker coming in earlier:

UPDATE 7:09 p.m.:
Copter 909 was just released off the Cook Incident as the sun drops below the horizon.

UPDATE 7:38 p.m.: Thanks to our KMUD sister station who covered things while we were fixing dinner, we know that “crews on scene report that the fire is under control. Firefighters will remain on scene to finish containment.” There is a four hour estimated mop up time.

I wonder if that has anything to do with the person seen driving north from Sonoma county a couple/few days ago with an incendiary shooting implement. Flare gun??

LOL. Join the club. I’ve always said, “If you know what somebody should have said, you know what they said”.

You have no idea how many great stories have been derailed by someone interrupting and correcting something and totally disrupting the narritive.

So two letters (SF) is too long? We graduated from SFHS, Which is on the SF Eel River. And No, no one I grew up with ever called the SF Eel, the “Eel”. And we never call it SoHum, or the Emerald Triangle and we never called people growing weed “farmers”, and never called it the “Lost Coast”, Quit making it something its not!

I wish more people would question what people say, use the correct name and meaning, instead of a long list a fallacies that contain no logic, reasoning or truth. The problem with your assumptions; is that when you think you know enough to think you are right, but not enough to know you are wrong. I am not sorry I question what people say, I wish more people did. Asking questions is not negative, its how we all learn and gain knowledge and pass that knowledge on to others, like teaching, you know teaching, right? Did you ever stop your students from asking questions?

I guess I am the only one who cares that people call that river by its name, South Fork of the Eel River. Its called respect for a state and federal listed Wild & Scenic River

Not to mention the East Branch of the South Fork of the Eel River, locals just call the East Branch. Right Edward?

You are correct Karl, alot of local people still think its only called “East Branch” and are the same people that have no idea that old two-lane highway 101 (Redwood Highway) ran behind the Benbow Inn and across the stone arch bridge up over the hill to and thru Garberville and Redway., back when there was only one twin trees bridge.

Thank you for your eternal patience, Kym. Some people add to the understanding of a subject, and some are only able to criticize those who do.
