Arcata Annual Paving Project Will Begin This Week

The City of Arcata announced today that construction for the 2023 Arcata Annual Paving Project is currently planned to begin during the week of Monday, Aug. 14.
The City of Arcata has contracted with GR Sundberg for this project. Work for this project involves the removal and installation of asphalt concrete, sidewalk, curb, gutter demolition and installation, thermoplastic striping and drainage improvements. Construction will take place Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on some days the contractor may extend work hours from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
This project will be taking place on:
- G Street from Fifth Street to Seventh Street
- H Street from Sunset Avenue to 11th Street
- Along West End Road from Giuntoli Lane to the City limits
Temporary lane closures will occur during hours of construction. Minor impacts to driveways and on-street parking accessibility are to be expected.

Right on time…to f up the flow of traffic for those dealing with school…brilliant Arcata – brilliant!
Haven’t they repaved G and H street 3 times in the last 10 years?
How about focusing on some of the roads that are in bad shape?
West end road is a good start.
I think it’s more like 10x in the last 10 years…and ALWAYS the first week of school – I remember driving my kids to AHS – thinking, really City of Arcata
Why are they starting so late in summer?
It’s the annual Poor Planning seminars that the mayor and council attend while the town is quiet, I think…!
Could be they’re busy debating/voting on the order of the flags, flying HIGH above City Hall!
