[UPDATE 4:46 p.m.: Video Shows Multiple Aircraft Battling the Flames] Structure Fire in Southern Humboldt County Spreads to Vegetation and Forces a Full Wildland Response

At 2 p.m., a call alerted emergency crews that a single room in a structure was on fire on Dyerville Loop Road northeast of Myers Flat in Southern Humboldt. But soon after multiple calls alerted firefighters that the flames had spread to the wildland.

The AlertCalifornia cameras show that smoke is rising from that area.

The Myers Flat exit is closed so engines driving south on Hwy 101 to get to the fire are having to detour and that will delay their response time to the area which is time-consuming to reach as it is.

The Air Attack 120 commander (See the plane circling the fire on FlightRadar] reports that the fire is moving at a moderate rate and there are several nearby structures. He estimated that the fire could grow to 10 to 20 acres before it was contained.

UPDATE 3:03 p.m.: The fire is currently 5 acres in size. CalFire Division Chief Marty Hobbs reports that “fire crews are making good progress.”

UPDATE 3:10 p.m.: A local sent us this photo showing how populated the area is even though the fire is off the Avenue of the Giants and up in the hills.

UPDATE 3:20 p.m.: Tanker 90 is returning to Ukiah after assisting on the fire. Tanker 95 is returning to Redding and Tanker 96 is returning to base in Humboldt County.

UPDATE 3:33 p.m.: Firefighters are working to put the fire out.

UPDATE 3:41 p.m.: Video provided by local residents shows the air battle against the flames.

UPDATE 4:46 p.m.: Firefighters kept the fire from spreading beyond the estimated five acres, according to Cal Fire Battalion Chief Erik Bryant who reports that no structures were involved or lost during this incident. (Thanks to KMUD’s Lauren Schmitt for her assistance with this report.)

it was off Dyerville Loop so a good distance away from cathey road and cathey ridge. They’re mopping up now… big response from local VFDs, CalFire and High Rock plus a lot of air support.

I hope no one was in that single room structure when it caught fire. Very impressive full wildland fire response, and pretty darn quick considering its distance away from town. Good news from CalFire Division Chief Marty Hobbs stating the fire crews are making good progress. Hopefully it will not reach the estimated 10 to 20 acres in size. Releasing the tankers from the fire is a good sign. I sincerely hope that no one will be injured or worse. A huge THANK YOU to all the first responders and others fighting the fire.

Surprising to read that no structures were involved or lost, since I was talking to the people who escaped the building, where they were working when the fire broke out, when they escaped and waited along the road as black smoke was rising from the building as it burned.

What an incredibly tragic loss of lives. There are no words. Janis and I visited Lahaina many times on our Radio Shack incentive trips. Lahaina was one of the most historic towns in the islands. We loved the food, the people, the culture and the history.
Strangely, we would run into someone we knew on every trip. Unbelievable loss!

I have been following the fires on the news Ernie and to be honest it makes me sick to my stomach. The number of lives lost just keeps climbing. I pray that the US and other countries will do what they can to aid these poor souls. It makes me want to sit in a corner and cry!

Maybe what Cal Fire Battalion Chief Erik Bryant meant was, that “no [additional] structures were involved or lost”…???
