Humboldt Bay Fire is responding to the report of a fire west of Walmart just after 2:30 p.m. on July 5th. Scanner traffic indicates that fire personnel are attempting to locate an access point.

The dispatcher stated that the reporting party said the brush was on fire along a trail near the 3300 block of Broadway. They also stated that two additional 911 calls have originated from the area, but the caller(s) hung up before relaying information.

Emily Scoles, an invaluable contributor to Redheaded Blackbelt, stated that she can see the fire from the area of the Samoa boat ramp.

Please remember that this story is unfolding. Information is being reported as we gather it. However, some of the information coming from witnesses and initial official reports could be wrong. We will do our best to get the facts but, in the case that something is inaccurate, we will update with correct information as soon as we can.

Update 3:05 p.m.: The incident commander stated the fire is out.
