Dog Attack in Salmon Creek Area West of Miranda, Three Women Reported Injured

Police lights can stock photoThree dogs reportedly attacked a woman in her eighties as well as two other women in Hideaway Hills in the Salmon Creek area west of Miranda at about 5:30 p.m., according to scanner reports and a neighbor.

The neighbor told us that three dogs belonging to another neighborhood man were “roaming around” and entered the yard of one resident. There, he said, one of them bit a woman in her eighties, her daughter, and a neighboring woman.

An ambulance took the older woman to the hospital. She reportedly had the most serious injuries.

The neighbor told us that he has been aware of issues with these same dogs for about two weeks.

The dogs have now been put on captured and restrained, according to the neighbor our reporter, Nikki Norris, spoke to.

Neighborhood dogs like this are actually the most convincing argument to me, for carrying a gun. These grow scene pitbull packs are seriously dangerous and can kill kids or stock, and should be shot if marauding in neighborhoods. Actually the owners are most responsible but I got my last comment deleted when I went there, so I won’t.

i had a friend who tried to shoot a dog that was attacking his goat, he accidentally shot the goat. Another neighbor who tried to shoot a raccoon in a live trap and hit her neighbors bedroom window and you want it to be normal practice for people to shoot up to 3 dog in their backyard??

Another good reason why there should be government sponsored hunter safety classes that are mandatory for ownership of a firearm. It used to be required class and most schools..

Sound like your friends and neighbors are horrible at shooting!
they definitely should not have guns or even a slingshot for that matter

Put all 3 dogs down. Let the owner pay for any expenses incurred. Demand that the owner either stop keeping dogs or move. Enforce the demand with good old fashioned neighborhood justice if necessary.

Anyone who allows dogs to free range is not a good neighbor.

Depends on the dog. I had a terrier that free ranged around our town and had many friends. When he died last summer one of them, who I had never even met before, came to my yard with a card for me and a little statue that she made of my dog. We shed a few tears while she told me of how much seeing him on her porch made her happy, and that he will be missed

Had a neighbor bring a card for me too- when the neighbor’s dogs killed my pet. A big problem is that it’s left to the owner to decide and there are too many people who decide that they are not going to bother controlling their dogs even if they know the have created a problem. They blame the victim for not knowing have to behave around their dogs. Then there are the ones who are too stupid or stoned to bother. Or just mean as they like the idea their dog will intimidate others. And since no one can target these people, all people have have rules. Sorry but no. It doesn’t depend on the dog at all. The person likely to let their dog out to crap on other people’s land is also likely to not understand the dog any better than they understand their neighbors.

Willow creeker you speak the truth that too many are unable to understand!
I agree with you 100%!!! Hearing of an eighty year old woman being attacked on her own property is not acceptable in any culture at any time in human history.
So sad and preventable. Hope she sues for damages and the dogs……..

I don’t like pit bulls; but if they stay in their yards and don’t bother folks, they’re okay.

And dangerous roaming dogs that attack humans should be killed. Even if they’re cute.

“Pack” of dogs have been known, even in Humboldt County, to kill and maim sheep, cattle, horses, and any other animals or people they encounter.

That owner needs to start paying medical bills and apologizing for his malicious negligence.

HAVE BEEN KNOWN?? Happens on the regular. Ask any rancher. And it’s not just vicious dogs. I’ve seen them (all in fun, I’m sure) harass/chase full grown cows, causing them to panic, run, and fall into a ravine. One cow’s injuries required killing her, and she had a nursing calf that nearly died too. We lose at least one calf to domestic dog attacks every year…way more than losses to wild animals.
Pet dogs attacking and harassing cattle, chickens, etc. are the norm around here. Loose dogs are shot on sight on most ranches with livestock because they are such a menace. Whether your dog is “vicious” or not, keep it on your property.

They just don’t always stay in their yards, even if the owner has the smarts to try. On this site there will be people announcing how cruel it is to not let dogs roam. After all “that’s why they moved to the country!”

I had a hippie chick friend who thought it totally natural and cool to let her husky roam around. She wouldn’t see it for hours and sometimes it came home with blood on its muzzle. “That’s nature!” the idiot would say… Just let your killing machine roam the forest and kill fawns, sheep, whatever…just do another bong hit and “be spiritual” or whatever. And she had many friends who also thought that was normal! Arcata area= nest of dangerous morons thinking they are spiritual…so weird

Thank you. That’s the most reasonable statement I’ve read on here regarding pit bulls. I have one. Found him in the middle of nowhere- thrown away to starve or get eaten by mountain lion…scared and emaciated. Of course brought him in and up to health. Then did not give him away because he’s a sweet, good dog. Loves cats, chickens, other dogs, life. Barks at bear, deer and people coming into driveway…does not bite them. Stays close and I keep an eye out for him in public because it really is dog racism out there. Yes- the wrong people often purposely get pit bulls and raise them irresponsibly. Yes- if a pit bull gets vicious they can cause a lot of damage very quickly. Those are facts but they do not apply to every pittie or pittie owner. All dogs need to be monitored and trained for behavior. That said….when dogs pack up they do things they would never do otherwise. And they should NEVER bite let alone attack humans. These 2 dogs probably need to be put down as they cannot ever be trusted. Maybe sent far away to a ranch w/ no neighbors and one or two owners they know…..Anyways- Thank You for a reasonable comment. You left room for my dog and I to be the decent, responsible couple that we are…p.s.- my neighbors have all met and bonded with my dog and are comfortable. I made sure of that because it’s my responsibility to look out for him- and all possible situations where people walk by. He alerts (barks) and then he comes and gets me- that’s his job.

Where does it say they are pitties? Are you guys assuming? Lots of other breeds attack. My som was attacked years ago by neighbor dogs who grew up with him and they were chow. Someone else I know had there own German Shepard attack them when there dog attacked a pitbull and the person tried to stop there German shepard.just saying it’s not always one breed . And owners need to keep there dogs confined if they are aggressive.

I remember a dog attack in Meyers Flat about 2 years ago? Where a woman was viciously attacked and lost her limbs. If the dogs bite people fine the owners and put dogs down, that simple.

The people that live in Hide Away Hills don’t own the land. They may own their house, but all the land is leased.

If history of bad behavior from these dogs is known and accounted in the past then the owner should be held accountable for any future actions, medical bills, licensing, etc. He/she should also have to keep the documented badly behaved dogs locked up or else put them down.

Having an eighty year old woman attacked in her own yard is completely unacceptable anywhere, anytime in this world!!

Serious dog bite to an elderly woman will be life changing and cost alot of money. Because of other victims/witnesses, it won’t be difficult for a court to have the owner of the attack dog liquidate all assets to pay these costs.
Would like a follow up story.
Let’s all hope that the victims heal quickly.

Sadly this breed was bred for blood sport and it’s something they often enjoy doing and think they are doing a good job. They are fine one minute and attack in another. I am no fan of them and I believe people should be licensed to own them and have requirements on their secure enclosures so they are not at large harming people and other people’s pets.
