Press release from the City of Willits:

The Willits City Council and former Willits Police Chief Alexis Blaylock entered into a settlement agreement, effective December 21, 2022, for the dismissal of Ms. Blaylock’s lawsuit against the City in which she alleged that she suffered damages from racial and gender discrimination in her brief employment with the City. While the City disputes those allegations, the Council determined that the settlement, which avoids a potentially lengthy, uncertain and expensive jury trial is in the best interest of the community of Willits.

Under the terms of the agreement Ms. Blaylock releases all of her claims in consideration for the settlement and dismissal of the lawsuit…the City’s insurer will pay to Ms. Blaylock the sum of $250,000.

The Council met in closed session on December 14 and by unanimous vote “conditionally” approved the proposed settlement agreement that had been presented by Ms. Blaylock’s counsel. The approval was conditional because, under the terms of the agreement, Ms. Blaylock retained the right to reconsider her agreement and to withdraw her approval for a seven-day period following her signing, That period expired today resulting in the removal of the condition to the Council’s acceptance. The agreement is now fully executed effective today.

The entire settlement proceeds will be paid by the City’s insurer. As is the City’s practice involving personnel matters, no further comments will be made.

She better save the money. No one will hire her now. Whether she was right or not.

It’s true though I’m sure she was right. They basically ruined her career. Ill Willville strikes again!

The city should’ve known that officers they had working at the time would be hostile toward her. I’ve known some of these cops since we were kids & they are redneck racist women haters to their core.

Sorry you went through that mess of a police department Ms Blaylock. Thrilled that you won and hopefully you can now retire comfortably.
Thank you for the many years of public service

The hiring of this person doesn’t seem to have been well advised, although she is highly qualified…

It’s about the result I expected and as far as her employability in the future, you will find more enlightened folk in most backwards villages of boondock backwood hillbillies… Someplace will be lucky to employ someone of her caliber.

A quarter million $ judgement will increase Willits’ insurance rates a bit, but it’s cheaper than hiring a whole new department. Which they should do immediately.

We used to refer to Willits as Ill Willville. When we had to go there for business from Branscomb or Spy Rock or Laytonville it was always an event to stay alert and get in-get out asap. This was the early 80’s and the cops corrupt hold over the 101 gauntlet was legendary. Not sure it ever got any better, even after some kind folk opened up some stores in town. The darkness was just so heavy…

My husband and I moved to Willits in 1990. Back then Willits was a town where everybody knew everybody. And we all knew the police and sheriff deputies by name. Our town has changed alot since then.

She won the racism lottery and will not do anything with that money to improve the community.

She’s my hero. I believe every word of her complaint. She tried to point out massive ignorance of modern police practices and more civil rights education, so those good ole boys and “conservative” council members showed her the door. Considering the comments from my fellow Willits residents, Q.E.D.
