Farmer, a College of the Redwoods student as well as a photographer, is a member of the USA Downhill Skate Team competing in street luge, a downhill sport that sends competitors racing down steep asphalt terrain while lying flat on their backs, reaching speeds up to 100 mph. Farmer won the Street Luge World Championships in 2017.
Headed to the Worldskate Games, the Ferndale resident had a bit of a mishap, losing two of his boards during his travel to Argentina to compete. He was able to secure a board from another team during practice, with his luge arriving moments before his qualifying heat where he secured a silver medal in the timed trials.
