Local Road Safety Plan Workshop in Arcata on November 2nd
Press release from the City of Arcata:
The City of Arcata Engineering Department, in collaboration with the Redwood Community Action Agency, is planning a Local Road Safety Plan Community Workshop at the D Street Neighborhood Center, 1301 D St. in Arcata from 5:30 – 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 2.
The City of Arcata has received funding from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) to develop a Local Road Safety Plan (LRSP). A LRSP is a data-driven traffic safety plan that coordinates efforts with a wide variety of stakeholders and members of the community to reduce injury and traffic collisions on the roadways.
The development of the Arcata LRSP is an opportunity to address unique roadway safety issues in the community, while contributing to the success of the States Strategic Highway Safety Plan. The LRSP is a systemic analysis of our roadway safety to not only address areas where collisions have occurred, but also where they may occur based on the presence of risk factors. The LRSP document will be periodically updated, and the data re-analyzed for success and failures. The LRSP is also a requirement to be eligible to receive federal funding for local highway safety improvement projects in the future and is a tool to help prioritize future roadway projects in Arcata.
The Community Workshop will focus on a public discussion of road safety in Arcata. There will be a short presentation on what a Local Road Safety Plan is, a summary of public input received from surveys and other resources, a summary of Arcata’s current road safety data, and potential emphasis areas for the focus of the Safety Plan. The community is invited to give feedback on roadway safety in Arcata and help to identify safety risk factors, locations of concern and strategize on how we can reduce hazards on our roadways!
