Ukiah Man Suspected of Attempted Murder in Recent Drive-by Shooting Has Been Arrested Multiple Times

Bryan Montiel Sanchez

Multiple booking photos of Bryan Montiel Sanchez.

20-year-old Ukiah man Bryan Montiel Sanchez has been booked into the Mendocino County Jail and charged with attempted murder for his alleged role in the nighttime, drive-by shooting that took place this Tuesday.

Within the last year and a half before the drive-by shooting, Sanchez has spent a minimum of 112 days in county prison. He has been allegedly involved in multiple criminal circumstances involving firearms, drugs, high-speed pursuits, and burglary. Sanchez has been arrested on multiple occasions over the last year. In most of those incidents, law enforcement says Sanchez’s crimes were committed in the company of male juveniles.

Around 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24, 2022, the quiet of Ukiah’s Ford Street was broken when a subject hung out the window of a vehicle and fired multiple shots in the neighborhood. The following day the Ukiah Police Department would tell the public that the shooting was not random, but had an intended target–an adult woman.

Sanchez is currently booked in the Mendocino County Jail awaiting official charges.

The earliest documented criminal exploit of Sanchez’s occurred on January 5, 2021. Sanchez and Ervin James Barnett burglarized a home on the 1000 block of Ukiah’s Alice Avenue.

Barnett would plead guilty to burglary, serve 116 days of a 300-day jail sentence, and be assigned formal-supervised probation until August 2024.

We know Sanchez was released from custody after his initial arrest. An arrest warrant for Sanchez was issued on January 11, 2021.

As per an MCSO press release, on February 22, 2021, a deputy conducted a traffic stop due to a traffic violation and arrested Sanchez for the outstanding warrant where he was booked in the Mendocino County Jail.

Sanchez would also plead guilty to felony burglary and serve 82 days of 240 in the Mendocino County Jail. He would be sentenced to formal-supervised probation for 36 months lasting until June 2024.

On March 15, 2021, Sanchez would be charged with felony battery with serious bodily injury against a 14-year-old. A criminal protective order would be invoked and then later rescinded after April 2, 2021, when the case would be dismissed. He was never found guilty of this crime.

On June 6, 2021, Sanchez and a 17-year-old juvenile were allegedly parked at Lake Mendocino’s South Boat Ramp when deputies approached and found multiple canisters of nitrous oxide. Both Sanchez and the juvenile provided officers with false names. After sorting out their identities, a search of the pair’s clothing and the vehicle was conducted during which the deputy found a half ounce of cocaine. Less than a gram of suspected heroin was found in the 17-year-old’s pocket. In the glovebox was a loaded semi-automatic handgun.

Sanchez was charged with presenting false information to law enforcement and the illicit use of nitrous oxide. The 17-year-old would face charges for heroin, cocaine, and firearm.

Later that summer on August 24, 2021, a vehicle pursuit took place on the dangerous roads of Mendocino’s North County along State Route 162, Highway 101, and Poonkinney Road. The suspect vehicle would exceed speeds of 100 miles/hour and pursuers would lose sight of the vehicle throughout the chase. CHP eventually caught up with the vehicle and found a 17-year-old was the driver and Bryan Sanchez sat in the passenger seat during the pursuit.

Sanchez was placed under arrest at the scene for delaying/obstructing/resisting a police officer and violation of his probation. He would plead guilty to misdemeanor charges of resisting/obstruction and serve 30 days in jail.

On September 9, 2021, MCSO deputies were conducting a probation search at a Covelo residence where they found cocaine, ammunition, and drug paraphernalia. They discovered Sanchez hiding in the bathroom and deputies arrested him on a felony arrest warrant for burglary.

And now, approximately ten months later, Sanchez is suspected of being the gunman during a drive-by shooting on the 200 block of Ford Street in Ukiah on the evening of May 24, 2022. The driver was a juvenile.

UPD identified Sanchez as the shooter on May 25 and he was placed under arrest around 4:00 p.m. that day.

The male juvenile suspected of driving the vehicle would turn himself in to the Ukiah Police on May 25 and was booked into juvenile hall.

The Ukiah Police’s investigation into the shooting is ongoing and they are still looking for the vehicle driven at the time of the shooting and the firearm. UPD asks that anyone with information on the incident, the vehicle’s location, or anything else contact UPD Detectives at (707) 463-6262.

With due respect to the victim of these crimes unless noted, not all of the crimes Sanchez stands accused of have been adjudicated. In accordance with legal principles, he should be presumed innocent until proven guilty.

It’s California, this guy wants to you to take away his right to bare arms, but your justice system keep putting him back into gen pop, and maybe he’ll turn his life around or he’ll do a mass casualty event.

Especially easy in the U.S., fact.

It’s California …  what country was he born in?”

What country was California before it was California?
How does our treaty (Guadalupe/Hidalgo) suggest
we treat the natives?

We are colonists, let’s be real.

You might be a colonist, but I’m a native. 4 generations in California! Born and raised in this great country and bought the land under my feet and the land that my renters pay me for.

Seriously? Were your people immaculately conceived in Humboldt or did they invade from Asia?
We are all colonizers, my native blood is Lumbee N.C.,
though traced to 12,000 BC
I am pretty sure we too began from somewhere else.
Four generations? Crack me up.

Here’s a good poll that says most Americans are saying what we are- that existing gun laws need to be enforced before making more new gun laws. Duh! This poll reveals many other things, just scroll along and get an idea of where peoples’ heads are at in this country….https://harvardharrispoll.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/HHP_May2022_KeyResults.pdf

I’m pretty sure a good start to cleaning up our social order would be to indenture permanently, or incarcerate indefinitely, anybody with tattoos similar to this son’s.
Democracy is so obviously unable to maintain a safe social order, it begs the question, what system do we try next?
What kind of system or culture can maintain the kind of social order most of us desire?
Because we can’t have young men running loose, savage like they are

THE BIBLE

ECCLESIATES 8:11

Violence unchecked equals more violence…easy fix .Punish violence strongly..quickly

Weapons are irrelevant. They change.

Democracy is fleeting

Unfortunately I see us sliding into some kind of fascist regime. Fascism thrives on broken social order because it at least promises stability. I believe we are pushing ourselves in that direction because we are somehow unable to police ourselves in an open society like we have? We are definitely blowing it!

Absolutely, and spot on to Corporate Serfdom….this State will react by implementing more laws to criminalize law abiding gun owners to cut back on “gun violence”, but will continue to not enforce the existing gun laws. Prime example here, a repeated felon in possession of a firearm, “Use a gun go to jail” law not enforced. Further, a repeated felon should not be out on the streets in the first place, regardless of gun use, “Three strike your out” law not enforced.

What a joke, we continually are being told from the liberal press that the issue is guns…..NO IT IS NOT, it is the people who use the guns, that is the issue. When you have a repeat felon that is allowed to continue to do crime why should he stop, easy money.

Ok. Did this guy just get arrested? In jail now? You all sound like you are getting preemptively defensive because of the Texas shooting. You can buy guns in CA, but there are a couple rules that might have helped prevent the shootings in Texas. Having to be 21, and having a ten day wait for a “background check”. Those few years can make a difference in mind set, and don’t limit my ability to purchase. If good people with guns aren’t a problem let’s keep track of who buys them better. Once you get one “bad” guy with a lil poor “innocent” gun, it becomes much harder to stop him. How can one part of your brain get worked up about a woman deciding to get an abortion for herself, while another part says I better take my bang stick to the grocery store in case I need to take someone out? Cognitive dissonance.

THAT is an excellent idea! How about grilling our present candidates for county Superior Court Judge to see where they stand on sentencing? That isn’t even happening, it’s like a popularity contest instead of asking them the hard questions. I also think the problem lies at the level of the judges. Instead of letting them pass the blame to the state they should be actively pushing for longer sentences or more rehabs. Their word carries so much more weight than ours and I consider it part of their responsibility in truly seeking justice…

You guys really need to think about it, he could have a family and could be trying to turn his life around so what’s the point in putting him away if he’s trying to do better? Yeah sure he was involved but it’s fair to let him get better for his family. It’s either kill or be killed; you never know what they could’ve been thru so I think it’s best for people to keep their opinions to themselves if they don’t know what’s truly going on or what some1 has been through in life.

Joe, What’s your stance on a mother’s right to decide if she’s ready to raise and support a child for 18-20 years?…until legally culpable? Let’s say, for whatever reason, she decides to have the baby regardless, despite being destitute, involved in crime, and otherwise unsupported? What could go wrong?

I think you need to stfu; this man doesn’t deserve the death penalty, he has a family for fucksake and you never know if they try to get better or not it’s not fair for someone who’s trying to get better it’s kill or be killed? What if they have a daughter? I think they need to give him a chance and let him raise her. It’s not fair to “give him a death penalty” he has a family did anyone think about that? It’s not fair to throw him away when he could possibly be trying to get better.

I often wonder about why cell-phone photographers can’t seem to straighten out the real-life vs. mirror-image problem. (My conspiracy mind says that it’s a function of post-modernism designed to further the belief that nothing really matters, that left is right and right is wrong, nothing can be relied upon, etc., but that’s another story.)
On a practical and legal level, it’s disturbing that even these supposedly legal-evidence MUGSHOTS can’t get it right. The photos on the left and right are NOT pictures of the suspect’s right and left sides. They are merely mirror images of one another. He has a crown tattooed next to one eye and 3 dots on the other cheek. They should have either just put up one side-view photo (one with the correct view, not the mirror view– that is, the view a human would see) or if they put up both, put up each side of his face– not one view reversed!

Look more closely. His hair is a different cut in those side-shots. Same side of head, but must have been on different occasions. And the neck tat is also missing in the short-hair version.

I see, Kym, and thank you. As you and izzy both pointed out, these are different occasions. But still– It doesn’t matter when they were taken! He didn’t have them removed or reversed. The second and fourth photos, earlier session (pre-neck tat, short hair) are right– they show the crown and stuff above eyebrow on his right, and the four dots on his left cheek.
But the later, long-hair session– 1st and 3rd photos– have one photo reversed. The 3rd shows the crown/brow tattoo properly as on his right, and the four dots on his left– it agrees with the earlier photos. But the 1st photo pretends to be of his left side (facing to our left), yet is reversed– it shows the crown and squiggles (saying “Blessed” backwards here) and NOT the four dots plus jawline script.

Who cares, right? It doesn’t matter. I’m just awe-struck sometimes though at the lack of basic logic, reason, and linear thinking people show nowadays. Maybe it’s the internet that does it to us. It’s so non-linear, nothing has to make sense anymore.
It would be interesting to see how test scores for basic aptitudes look lately. If a=b and b=c, does a=c? I don’t think many people would know. And they’d say, “Who cares?”
I think it’s a problem, though, that people are losing their ability to think.
